Vetinary kennels
« on: August 09, 2008, 03:22:40 am »

As well as the training kennels, vetinary kennels that you can assign injured animals to would be nice.

They'd need a Dwarf with animal care to look after them.

A secondary function would be the ability to neuter male animals.  (Spaying the females would be too complicated for the tech level.)

Why not just improve the existing kennels with these functions?

I'm not aware of the word "kennel" being used in connecting with other animals than dogs, so the name should probably be changed, but otherwise I kinda like the idea of expanding the kennel workshop to include other animal-related activities (such as husbandry or animal care).

Not to be confused with Vetinari kennels.

It's Veterinary. Not Vetinari. Or vetinary, which isn't a word actually used to mean anything AFAIK.  ;)

Rule of thumb, if the red squiggly line appears under a word while posting, right click it and see if you're using the right spelling. Use the spell checker with caution when using names of things from myth or fiction. Like manticore.

Don't troll, man. At least try to add to the conversation.

So, MMad, what should we call the kennels then? Because we might need to rename them. They were originally (and in vanilla DF, still are) only used on dogs.

But we should eventually be able to use them on other animals.

You really can't expect that every user in this forum has a spelling checker. For example, I don't have one (but I really should, though).

You could call them something like "Bestiary", or, uhh....  Animal oppression station?  Except almost everything seems to involve feeding creatures to tame them at this point.  That's not very oppressing.  Hmmmmm..

More to the point, I think healing for non-dorfs is simply broken. I've had dogs running around with hurt tails for years. Lizardmen and antmen with wounds that never heal, and so on and so forth.

What about "animal station"? Too generic, maybe? Or how do you call the enclosure the sheep are forced in for shaving again?
