An adventure question
« on: August 16, 2006, 11:59:00 pm »

Um, how do I interact with items? I bought a helmet, I took the old helmet I was wearing off, but I don't seem to have any way to put the new helmet on my head, as the wear command only brings up jewelery. I know I'm missing some command that isn't listed or something, but it's really frustrating not only being inable to put on a helmet, especially because I can't put the old one back on either.

Try pressing '?' and looking up key bindings. I've had the same problem many times.

Are you an elf or a dwarf buying a human helmet?  It's kinda sad, but your...  head might be the wrong size.  Other than that, the item should appear in the list if it is in your possession and you have a free slot.

...I had no way of knowing that. Usually in games, if the armor is listed as "iron plate mail", it is assumed as a one-size fits all, especially since my dwarf has no reservations against using a masterpiece improved bronze axe. Hmmm, does that mean I have to take my armor off a kobold or goblin?

Uh, nevermind. Now I think merchant should give a warning before you step out the door with something marked as theirs. Mace Lords are fun to fight against.  :p

Actually, it's supposed to say "stout iron plate mail" if it is over-sized but not super large.  A horrible word choice, yet again.  If you are a dwarf looking at human stuff, it will say "large".  Right now, there are two parameters governing this, your overall size, and whether you are "narrow" "normal" or "stout".  Dwarves are a Stout 6.  Elves are a Narrow 7.  Humans are a Normal 7.  Some things like helmets should carry between a bit, possibly with penalties.  Even armor could carry over a bit with penalties.  Right now it's strict and somewhat confusing.
