Future of the Fortress 1

Apparently the Future of the Fortress is too big, as nobody has been able to add a post there since last night. I just tried to add one, so I know it isn't from a lack of people trying to.

So, continuing on....

ya, I posted, then when it took me to the thread, I clicked the last page, and the post wasn't there. So I refreshed, and it still wasn't there, and since the prior post was the night before, I made the assumption that there was an issue. And just look what happens when we ass-u-me.

I still vote for keeping the new thread. The old one is 101 pages long already.

In the meantime, Toady, can you fill us players in on what system you're going to try and use for the caveins? Not to be doubting your mighty divine knowledge of all things dwarven, but we might find a better alternative without you having to redo the entire thing afterwards.

FoTF is dead! Long live FoTF! I think it is a good idea to start a fresh thread anyway, I mean it's 102 pages!
Perfect time too, just days before the new release! Speaking of witch, check out the Next Version Donation Pool. All the cool kids are donating!

Well, looks like it's official. That monster of a topic is finally dead, cast down by Toady One the Great.

It was dying of its old age anyway.

Toady One has been fine lately. He has been accosted by terrible vermin recently.
He does not mind being outdoors, at least for a time.

I love that DF models little things like that.

Will the old FotF be sticked so anyone can find it easily?
Or would that be pointless?

It could be linked at the first post or something, I guess, but there are no stickies on this forum.

I am also curious what your plans are with cave-ins, if you've got any yet.

For once I would like the DF release to be postponed! I am doing my last six weeks of my degree and although I've removed all the games from my computer (heartbreaking, yes, and I know I'm not the only one here who periodically has to do this!), I am struggling to keep away from the DG here. It's actually sorta nice being part of this group who are patiently waiting for the elevator to arrive. If this were 15 years ago, we'd all be camped outside our game hobbyist stores waiting for it to open.

I wonder if we should start a FotF Cult?

Btw Toady: Can we only rewall adjacent squares, or can we rewall adjacent and down? Can we rewall up?

I ask because I wonder how we can create the table-like structure below:

code:

#   # Ground Level

#   #

#ABA# Level 1
ACBCA
#ABA#

In this y'll notice that on level 1 there are six rewalls (A) that are diagonally above one rewall (nothing beneath), and three rewalls (B) that are only adjacent to two rewalls (nothing diagonal down or directly beneath). Then there's two rewalls (C) diagonally above a rewall in a diagonal direction (touching the corner of a rewall diagonally below). Can all of these rewall placements be done in the new version?? Essentially, what sort of arches can we make?
