dwarven tapestries

Weavers already exist... so do dyes.

Wouldn't it be great if weavers could create canvasses for dwarven painters (using dyes) to paint on? Which could be hung on the walls of any room including those delved out of silt or sand, as a way to improve the quality of the room without having to load it up with statues made of precious metals, or making a bunch of stone furniture. This would be pretty useful for forts when you don't have much metal or gems to lavish on nobles and when, like me, you prefer to delve rooms out of silt because there's not much littler left behind. I know that the dwarves don't really mind boulders strewn wildly across their decadent engraved and magnificently appointed rooms but this might be a way to easily increase the quality of silt and sand rooms.

Chains.  Weave silk or regular rope, set them up as chains. They serve the same function, and you can decorate a fort with things such as this.  Just don't assign them to anything, and your good to go.

Oddly enough I find it weird that Dwarves currently cannot attain godhood.

Weev is right, dwarves love it to stand for hours in front of chains and admire them,
no matter whether a creature is chained to them or not  :D

Tapestries have been mentioned by Toady as something that will be put in in the future(Yes, two ins).
We will just have to wait until then to improve soil rooms.

Umm, for the record, a tapestry is woven out of multicolored threads, a painting is made from paint on canvas.  So tapestry would be something that a weaver would make, or perhaps something a plant fiber crafter would make using a loom and dyed threads.  For a painter you'd probably want a canvas made out of undyed threads, and paints made out of dyes in order to make it.  (Though maybe you could first allow paint to be used to up the value of certain objects)

This would of course lead to Goblin Taggers coming to deface the beautiful fortress, and cleaning becoming a much more sought after skill in the future.
