Kosovo Karnage
« on: May 30, 2003, 05:07:00 am »

Soon I will release my first curses game "Kosovo Karnage" which I origonally wrote in Basic in the last century.  I plan to follow up with a Rogue-like game based on Robert E Howard's "Conan" where you get to fight all sorts of devolved savages.

Kosovo Karnage should be done by the middle of next week.

Level 1 is complete.  Mines blow up and send body parts everywhere.  I am now going to Second level.  I'm thinking machine guns, morters and lazer-guided munitions dropped by those un-manned planes the CIA loves so much.

Kosovo Karnage has been released!  I am now planning a game where you sack villages and slaughter degenerate tribespeople.

You were too busy resurrecting threads from five years ago to notice the minefields.

now, i discourage people from using the wikipedia for "facts", but you can certainly look up your own information from elsewhere.  maybe it was all made up by US media, but i remember hearing a great deal about this back in '99.

i didnt know about Bay12, Three Toe, or Toady back in 2003, so i havent tried this game yet.  I would imagine that its a sensationalized version of the same events?

Just like you can play games about Area 52 in the US, or Chernobyl in the former USSR, and while theres no aliens or radioactive mutants in real life, its still fun to shoot them in the game.

It's essentially a Minesweeper clone.

Although Kosovo Karnage does seem to have "don't get blown up in a minefield" as the main gameplay premise, I wouldn't call it a clone of Minsweeper. In fact, I can't really think of any similarities beyond that basic idea... I mean, Minesweeper is a laid back puzzle game where the point is to systematically locate and flag all the mines with logic and a little luck, but this is a real time action game where the mines are all shown, you have a character you're trying to run through the area, other people are blowing up everywhere, and you're dodging shrapnel/body parts/something... totally different gameplay. I didn't get the Kosovo reference either, but I just figured that was what the latest violent conflict in the news was at the time when the game was originally written sometime in the 90s.

***SPOILER***
on minesweeper the NATO doesn't automatically carpet bomb you to death on level 3 or so.

I still try programming off and on between stories.  I have a long line of junk programs.  One of these days I'll make a comeback.  True champions never surrender.

Okay, that was funny... I'd never seen that, so I loaded up and played through to get there, took a few attempts... the game crashed instantly when that happened.  :D

It's oddly addicting, but it has a habit of crashing a lot. I got to level 5 or so (the one with the planes).
