There are 17 more items on my list of programming tasks concerning LCS 3.  Each of them will take a 1/2 to 3 hours, maybe, depending on their relative difficulties and unforeseen complications.  That would mean...  8 1/2 to 51 hours until release, given constant programming on this project -- something that only happens when I'm doing Star Zoo.  More realistic, well, I don't know...  3 or 4 more weekends?  I had to grade midterms all day today, I have my (constantly rescheduled) area exams on March 17th, and I'm writing my thesis.  I'm also programming other things.  However, the number of items on the list will only decrease.  I shall count it down as I complete them.

16...  it'll be 15 as soon as car chases are a little more interesting.

10...  now I've got to rework how sieges work given that you can have your people spread all over the place.

9...  Although I fear the connection between the new siege code and a non-bug reality is a bit tenuous at this point.

The primary elements remaining are re-relating compounds to sieges, finishing character generation and talking, as well as the technical points like rewriting save/load, highscores, and the manual.  Finally, I'll need to squash some bugs.  That's it though.

Down to 8, but my computer crashed.  I think either my CDRom drivers or the CD or DVD drive is messed up.  I disconnected both of them and my computer is running fine.  However, without those, I only managed to back things up on my digital camera, which I'm not too too happy about.   I'm going to see if one or the other of the CD drives work separately (they both can burn), if not then, well, shit.  I know that when I hook both of them up, my computer freezes randomly and takes 5 long minutes to start.  The freezing randomly part interferes with LCS programming.

I disconnected one of my CD drives, and it seems like my computer's little "Welcome to my Hell" moment is over with.  Things are backed up, and we're down to 6 on the LCS count.

4.  Talking and some minor bloating/bug checks remain, as well as saving and loading.

WooHoo!

Yeah my PC is acting up lately as well(and I just recovered from that whole virus mess!). Sometimes XP refuses to shut down when I try to do so. It locksw up at the "Windows is shutting down" screen.

Many other little things are off as well and for some reason my video card is being read as if it were only a 4mb card(it is supposed to be 32 mb) so I cannot play some of my games right now and it will not let me update the drivers toi the 3d card(Windows XP update detects the on board SiS card but when it tries to update the drivers there is some weird error).

*Sigh*...oh well. At least there is a new LCS coming!

Yeah, computers suck.  I have no idea how I got stuck with this as my damn hobby.  You'd think after Dos 6.0 trashed my entire hard drive when I was a kid I'd have learned.

Current Programming Music:
The Dwarves - Are Young and Good Looking
Crass - Feeding of the 5000
Slayer - South of Heaven

I think the Crass works best for LCS.  It is on theme, anyway.

I just ordered a bunch of instrumental metal guitar CDs...  kind of at random.  Hopefully that will speed all of everything up, when they get here.  I also have a few Paco de Lucia CDs coming...  I haven't found one I liked yet, but I'm giving new flamenco a chance.  I'm still into pre-70s stuff before it got all jazzy-rumba-ass.  And more the guitar than the singing, although some of the singing rocks.

Dwarves are great! FOr LCS programming I would also suggest(for thematic reasons):

Propaghandi
Consolidated -especially Play More Music.

Anything that features Jello Biafra! -(an irrational nutcase but a liberal one)DK and his spoken word stuff as well as LARD(colaboration with Minsitry)

Minsitry - any album post disco days.

Hehe...Slyer! Even if one absolutely hates metal one has to admit that Slayer had some of the best "Woah! Let me sit down and learn that riff right now" guitar chops out there. I almost could not pick up a guitar for a long time without playing the intro to South of Heaven.

I listened to some Propaghandi samples on barnes and noble...  kinda rubbed me the wrong way, seemed ego-ridden, but I see how the thematic elements are relevant.  Couldn't find Consolidated the places I looked, but didn't look much yet.  DKs kick ass.  For programming, I find Plastic Surgery Disasters and Give me Convenience or Give me Death inspire the kind of productivity I'm look for.  Lard's awesome.  I have the first album on tape, but my tape player's broken...  my brother has Ministry's "With Sympathy".  Man, that was terrifying the first (and possibly only) time I heard it, although I have some of their other stuff, so it's not all...  like you said...  man...  what the hell happened to change them around?

Went to a Slayer concert in Seattle like a year ago, and they played South of Heaven there for the encore.  It was bad ass, even if they are in like their 40s or whatever, and one of them is bald -- it was funny, because during one of their songs, they had this old video of them from the 80s playing at the same time, and there were 4 guys with long hair.  Down below playing, there were only 3.  I felt bad for him (King I think).  The singer has stage presence too, damn.  I tried to pick up electric guitar but practicing is too inconvenient now since my rats chew up my amp wires if I leave it out (yeah, that's lazy), so it's purely flamenco now.  I suck though.

What else has worked for programming lately...  Marilyn Manson's first tape...  Johnny Cash At Folsom Prison...  Iggy Pop...  the Cramps...  gansta rap...  GG...  Howling Wolf...  Captain Beefheart...  lotsa stuff.  If there's no music on though, I can't get anything done.  I've gotta be able to type to the beat too.  Degenerate.

Yeah, as far as Ministry goes, it was always Jourgenson's and barker's intention to do the heavy cyber-thrash political thing but they figured they could make a lot of money putting out some disco first and be able to support what really they wanted to do with their ill-gotten financial gains.

Unfortunately they didn't make crap from the disco stuff so they just went "Fuck it!" and did their own thing after that anyway. They did a reverse of what every other great rock band does and tried to sell out at the beginning and then put out good stuff(whereas most tend to strat out good and then sell out later).

The one I heard didn't really sound mainstream...  Maybe it's hard to make good mainstream disco.  You probably have to be the right kind of person to really...  be able to do it.

I don't know.  Anyway, I just got all my cheesy metal CDs, and the shredding works great.  Although sometimes I just bust out laughing at Cacophony's lyrics.

LCS update:  I'm doing 3 and 4 together...  just a lot of text and stories to write up.  I'm about halfway done with that.  Then I just have to clean things.
