Regarding the end of the month report

What is the grocery subsidy?
I know it's not rations 'cause that goes into infrastructure.

You have to buy food for your people who aren't in the homeless shelter. It's lower if somebody there has cooking.

This may end up getting removed now that recruit caps are in place, because upkeep is generally Unfun, and the need for it isn't there anymore.

We'll need something else for cooks to do though.  ;)

I don't know if it increases slowly or not. I know it didn't at first, and I know I meant to fix that. I don't know if I got around to it. Either way, I think I'll end up cutting this out. ("This" being the upkeep grocery bill that cooking affects, and therefore any potential of it increasing that way.)

Suggestions on cooking that I recall include bake sales and a bonus to selling brownies. Any other ideas?

Could always just take it out. It could join Axe and Gangsterism in the Hall Of Ex-Skills.

Actually, when cooking first made an appearance (before it actually did anything) I thought it was used for brownies. I also like the idea of bake sales. On the other hand we already have 3 skill based legal fund raisers.
Incidentally I thought rations was all you needed to feed the people of liberal persuasion. They're all-vegan rations, right?

As it stands now, cooking doesn't increase on it's own, or at least it doesn't if you don't have any to start with.

Jonathan,
I don't think that the recruitment caps are an appropriate substitute for unpkkep costs. As it stands now the recruitment caps slow the growth of the LCS until you get the gaurdian up and running, after that recruitment is essentially unlimited.
In my current game I have two pages of hackers and combat groups living outside of the shelter (they more around alot), I consume about three thousand dollars of groceries every month, which requires a fairly substantial fund raising operation to keep going (okay if I really needed to I could sell some the 200-odd AR-15's I've got stock piled).

Groceries and rent force you to build some sort of organization up before you start really big operations, which I like.

Hm. Well, we'll have to see it works when the Guardian doesn't do that. I keep meaning to nerf the Guardian's Juice Bombs. It's been on my to-do list since before I knew how to program.

Edit: Going with 10-20 juice instead of 50-100, and only if they're at the guardian HQ.

Edit2: Reconsidering the guardian HQ idea. So scratch that part, they can be anywhere except in the justice system, as it is now. But only 1/5 the juice.

What? No axe skill? No psychotic liberals going to the logging camp and chopping up loggers with their own logging equipment?

Come to think of it: LCS could use some more "outdoor" sites. How about a logging camp or even  Maybe a graveyard to recruit the victims of gun-violence or those whom attend a soldier's funeral and so on.

Actually, in the same vein as logging camps, I've just had passing ideas of all sorts of locales such as a stock exchange (playing havoc with the market), the city hall (same, but for government), a college building (mess with conservative business courses or recruit environmental science professors [worse teaching but better science knowledge than normal teacher]) and though the Intelligence HQ kinda does it already, I had an idea for a military base, heavily guarded but could be raided for weapons. Another was a casino or bank heist. That could fit into the stock exchange. Just something that would have a ton of money to steal while exposing the weakness of the conservative system. Before I get called on it, I know there is not much cash at a stock exchange in reality.
This is just me tossing out some ideas. I have no expectation of them being implemented as they are kinda unfocused and I'm sure there are other more important things to be added.

Yeah, in my attempt to cut down on the number of obscure and near-useless combat skills that people might start with, I axed the axe and replaced it with a different and terribly non-Oubliette style sword.

The difficulty of outdoor sites is that they're a pain to program. Maybe if they were read in from file or something.

Logging camp:
: road
- felled tree
^ standing tree
& truck to sabotage

.....^:....
..^...:^...
....-.:-.-.
.^....:&...
...-.-..-..
^....-....^
..^....-...
.....^....^

But nah, any logging camp should be randomized somewhat.

Come to think of it, it wouldn't be that hard, would just need special code for all the fancy things, like felled trees and such.

Edit: Other buildings are similar, they just need work to do.

Yep. Only weapon in the game with three totally different names depending on where you are and what screen you're looking at.
