Primative Civs Mod

This is a simple mod for Dwarf Fortress. It adds in some primitive beastman civilizations. They use copper, and simple weapons, such as hand axes, spears, and clubs. They add some interesting spice to the world gen, and quite a bit of new trading during Fortress mode.

Installation: copy these files into your raw/objects folder in Dwarf Fortress. You will need to generate a new world to see these civs.

Update: Undeadstag has created a Graphics Pack for this mod!

Additions:
Races: Lizardmen, Frogmen, Snakemen, Turtlemen, Tigermen, Wolfmen, Jackelmen, Bearmen, Goatmen, and Raccoon men. Each race comes with it's own unique language file. Right now, they are set to have a single civ each during world gen, but with a large population. So you'll only find any one race in one spot, but they seem to do all right for themselves overall.

Items: Hand Axes and clubs, to provide less effective weapons then the usual Battle Axes and Maces. The Primitive civs are not supposed to be the equal of the core races in combat.

[EDIT: Fixed the typo in the URL]

Your url tag is broken.

Primative Civs Mod

I'll actually comment on the mod after trying it out/reading the raws.

Edit: Looking at the raws files, they don't really seem all that primitive, just less well equipped. Kobolds are primitive, these guys are rather civilized especially since they live in cities.

Why not just make one kobold be as powerful as 10 carps? Problem solved.

Well, there is a limit to how primitive I can make them and still have them be active in the world. If they lived in caves, as I'd prefer, then they'd be hidden from the rest of the world and wouldn't be able to expand. So I gave them towns, which I can at least pretend are clusters of rude huts.

I wanted something in between the kobalds and the rest of the main races. They aren't perfect, of course, we don't have the tags to do what I'd really want. If I could, I'd make them use wooden spears and clubs, with stone hand axes. I tried giving them WOOD_PREF, but then I ended up with wooden hand axes, and that just seemed silly.

Perhaps instead of calling them primitive I should call them barbarian?

Perhaps instead of calling them primitive I should call them barbarian?

Then everybody would be barbarians 'till some human civ starts calling themselves The Roman Empire of Cheese.

I say primitive would be best.

I would bet money Andrew has edited things retroactively, except I can't prove anything because it was edited retroactively.

I could be wrong.  What would you call it when you spend that much time obsessing over something that it turns out you don't even like?
Relationships?
