LF Help: Maximum Savagery.
« on: September 17, 2008, 07:22:05 pm »

Yep, it's me again. Starting a new thread might be redundant, but...

How can I increase the monster count (not difficulty, mind you) and get invasions with <20 dwarves? I turned off the Babysnatcher tag for Goblins, but I'm not sure if that's enough...

I crave violence! Help me, compatriots! Losing is fun and I want to LOSE!

Sincerely,

-A Bloodthirsty Kamikaze Dwarf

Invasions/sieges/babysnatchers/thieves depend entirely on fortress wealth, not the number of dwarves you have. I turned off migrants at 20 and I still get ambushes, thieves etc very regularly.

Go into the civilizations entity files and change the tag [PROGRESS_TRIGGER_POPULATION:?] to 1. This will cause them to show up extremely early in the lifetime of your fort. To make them always attack you can remove their ability to talk by replacing the [INTELLIGENT] tag in the creature files with [CAN_LEARN] and [CAN_CIV]. Not being able to talk will guarantee that a civ will be at war with you, but they will not say so. However, it also means that the civ will be at war with everyone, and therefore might be killed out in the world gen.

It would be brutally difficult and probably won't work. In other words, it's absolutely dwarven!

Hmm. That sounds about right for what I'm looking for.

Does it work post-generation, like .init changes?

It should. The only things that require a new world to be created are the majority of the init changes and if you actually remove/create a entry into one of the files. Remember to delete the stuff in the data/objects file though, or changing will not do anything.

You mean the raw, right? The stuff in the data/objects folder is unopenable, but the raws are text docs that I've been able to trim the stuff out of.

The game works on a cache system. This means that even if you edit the raws, they will not take effect until you delete the corresponding files in data/objects. The game will then rewrite the cache with new data.

What are you talking about?  The raws get re-read every time the game starts.

Thanks for the info on the progress triggers though.

ALright, this is odd. I cannot for the life of me find the [INTELLIGENT] tags to replace in entity_default. D:

Yes, look in creature standard. Just doing the babysnatcher and intelligent tags got me a siege at 16 dwarves. Insanely hard. Survived the first siege, but they came back with weaponmasters and archers the very next season. Warning, this will make DF hardcore! It'll be easier after the first reclaim tho.

D'oh.

Well, even if it is OH SHIT hard, I can always "cheat" and retract my bridges... not like I'd do that, though. >:D
