A Halloween modding competition
« on: September 18, 2008, 06:01:14 pm »

So today during Geometry I was struck by a fell mood. After loosing a roaring laughter, that was both fell and terrible...and ignoring the subsequent odd looks...I began to think, with a horrible fell look upon face!
"Why not create a yearly Halloween mod?" I thought to myself! (It is, of course, my favorite holiday!) Then I thought "Why not get the whole DF community involved?" and then, this was quickly followed by "How about a competition?"
So now I present you with:
The First DF Annual Hallows-Eve Modding Competition!
Here are the rules:
-By submitting a creature you admit that: You have tested it, and it is not insanely unbalanced. It will also fit into the game.
-The creature concept is of your own design (For the most part. Since a headless horseman would be awesome, for example.)
-You will allow your creature to be added into a mod with any other submitted creatures.
-You are fine with losing the competition, LOSING IS FUN.
-Your creature is NOT a civilization (I may amend this rule later)
-The competition will run from September 1 (This year it starts a bit late, obviously) to the end of October (AKA Halloween) You may continually change your creature during this time, just be sure to notify me of these changes.
-You can enter as many as you want, you can only win once. It is on your honor that all creatures are of the best quality you can make.

If I missed anything that you think should be in the rules, let me know please (preferably in a private message)

Now, for the PRIZE! All voting will be done during the week after Halloween and prizes will be awarded the day after voting ends. Voting will be done by a panel of judges, a new panel will be selected yearly (I need 5 judges, then, if you want to be a judge let me know).

THE PRIZES:
Grand Prize: -Need a suggestion-
Runner Up: -Need a suggestion-
Third place: -Need a suggestion- Perhaps a picture or something?

The Judges:
1. Me
2. DuncanFrost
3. Jamini
4.
5.
Judges will be allowed to submit creatures to the mod, but may NOT actually compete. This is, of course, for fairness.

Who would like to enter?

Sure why not?

One entry per person?

You can enter as many as you want, just make sure that all your entries are the best you can make. You can only win once, anyways.

Can a person post an entry and be judge?

I assume not.  If so, I'd rather be a judge.

He said that you can't enter the contest if you're a judge, although you can still submit creatures to the mod.

Should I put you down as a judge? You can still submit to the mod, you just won't be able to win the contest.

Can I become a judge, please? I'm not super-awesome at modding or anything but i'd like to contribute.

Just a stirge I made before with the bloodsucker and organs removed.  Should not be very dangerous to an armed and armored opponent but they can tear apart a peasant.  They attack in swarms.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I don't expect this to win it.  Just want to get the competition started.

EDIT: I use 2WINGSB and 2WINGSC so often I forget they are custom.  All it does is prevent stuff from using them to grapple.

Sign me up as a judge.

I'll probably submit a creature or two as well (already got a few ideas actually) but I'm not really into the spirit of competition. :p
