I'd advise that whatever else you do should be complemented by making games on your own time.  It's possible to make really good stuff without having a degree (see: Dwarf Fortress, Cave Story), and it certainly helps to have a decent portfolio.

That's a good advice. Perhaps Caskman is the next Will Wright!  :D
