You should put it in an office for use when Elven Diplomats arrive.

It's a dwarf.  Their natural habitat is "trapped on the wrong side of a wall".

Flinging children halfway across the map to land in magma is good, wholesome fun, but extramarital reproduction?  Why, that's just unseemly!

I got one legendary bow (not crossbow) as an artifact, and that was pretty awesome, especially considering that at the time, the only competent soldier I had was a legendary vampire bowdwarf. Another really awesome one was a battle axe, which wasn't a strange mood artifact, just a named blade, but what was awesome about it was the name: The Mortal Crescent.

Current fort got a pretty good first artifact, a giant platinum axe blade worth over 600,000. I don't normally use traps but if I get an artifact I make an exception. Installed on a corner leading into the fort it has 10 outright kills, mostly necromancers and snatchers. I often don't even get a combat report, just a new corpse and pile of clothing. And lots and lots of blood. With bigger or armored foes it pretty much guarantees the loss of at least one limb.

Tamespeaker the claystone figurine

Spoiler: Tamespeaker (click to show/hide)

It depicts the murder of a dwarf.

I love this artifact not for its usefulness but rather for the imagery that adorns it. The fact that it is decorated in human bone is a neat bonus.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The name of the dwarven victim is very fitting in this context. Thus it came to be that my immortal hammerlord is forever burdened to wear this extremely heavy piece of armor depicting her insatiable blood lust and the dark deeds that were born of it.

Only vaguely. Made of the same substance and put to the same use, but a bit like comparing a castle and a doublewide trailer.

Accompanied by his buddy the Captain of the Guard, who now has an artifact crossbow. I have never had a fort make me useful artifacts with this frequency. I'm expecting some sort of zombie-dragon invasion momentarily.

First artifact of Crushedforts is a naive gold armor stand.  My military will be ecstatic.

ETA: that should be 'native' not 'naive'  Damn you, autocorrect!

Still early going in my current fortress.  My metalsmith got bored with no forge (no fuel material so far...bituminous or lignite).  Got a mood, so I built the forge anyway.  He took it over and crafted...

Ometenas "Flukedoctrine"..a steel sarcophagus of the highest quality.  Decorated with oak and menaces with spikes of steel.  Value of 73200*.

Well the moods are hitting fast and furious.  My lowly peon just got hit and claimed the Craftsdwarf shop.

His unskilled creation...Lithrushnirmek "The Fetid Defense"...a sand pear wood cup.  It's decorated with horse leather and has an image of Eve Trickgale the human and Erith Phantomlabor the dwarf with Phantomlabor striking down the human with a Bronze spear.  LOL
