The great ocean fortress of Roughtender
« on: November 01, 2008, 09:10:58 pm »

This is the story of a fortress build almost entirely over the ocean. The only part not built over the water is the bedrooms and farms, which are cleverly dug into the ground nearby so that the only access into them is through the fortress. another part, not necessarily a part of the fort, is the mines, huge chasms dug into the rock. The magma nearby must have overflowed many years ago, and the solid rock in which we have dug possesses no aquifer.

Here is the view of the entrance to the fortress.

Here is the food storage/processing,barracks, and dining room.

Here is the main workshop and production level.

And here is the bedrooms and farms.(Take note that there are NO ways in from the outside, other than the staircase, which simply leads upwards to a walled off pathway that juts out from the fortress.

Obviously, this is a young fortress, and not much has happened yet. this will be a community fort, so you can pick characters and such. Just ask if a certain job exists. Currently though, all of the military consists of a bunch of wrestlers.

Only in Dwarf Fortress would you try to catch a mermaid to butcher her and make trophies out of her bones

Sword-dwarf. I'm assumeing expansion will go on as it has been? Or are you limiting the number of dwarves your fortress can support?

I would like a mechanic/siege operator/architect who claims to be an evil genious.
If you have any male dwarves that like blocks and demons, that would be perfect for this guy.

Alternately: The Brick Testament. It's a really fun look at what the bible would look like if interpreted literally. With Legos.

How exactly did you connect to the ocean? Just wondering.

I'll have a farmer by the name of Strife, please.

@chaoticjosh: How can you be bad at it? You don't have to do anything...

I'd assume that he was assuming that it would be a sucsession fort. Relatively easy assumption to make, really. We need to standardize DF terms.

I agree with Strife on the standardization of terms (I got the same thing mixed up in "my" first community fort), and would also like a dwarf.

Name: Fre
Profession: Cook/Brewer (I'm assuming you have one of those)
Personality: Your local bartender, whom you can go to, talk about your problems, and get good advice from.

Haven't stuck my foot in a community fort in a while.  Need a mechanic?

Suggestion, if you want a big project to work on.  Pipe the magma out over the ocean to make some obsidian down to the floor.  Use part for a magma reservoir for smithing, and hollow some of it out for underwater farming.  Then you can completely disconnect yourself from the shore.

Well, if we're going to assume community (by my def.) could I have a (what haven't I been in a while . . .) Clothesmaker named Strife.

He also does leather!

Sounds like a fun community fort  :D

I'll grab a soldier dwarf (sword preferably)
Name:Flint
Gender:Male
Personality:Flint is a young inexperienced dwarf who upon hearing of this great experimental fort quickly rushed over so that he may make a name for himself. While he is young and lacks proper training he is eager and willing to learn, he is also reasonably friendly but likes to get his own way. Flint's main goal is to become a hero and be placed alongside the many great warriors that make up his family.

Jeeze guys, I had no idea you'd all be THAT interested.
I'll try and name the dwarves as fast as I can.

Oh, and Aqizzar, that is on the drawing board. The only issue is the issue of mining new stone for the fort afterward.
