Clean Language Files
« on: November 05, 2008, 09:11:00 pm »

I'm trying to make it so my brother can play DF, but he can't do that until all innuendo and profanity has been purged from the language files. Damn there a lot of words! Has anyone already done this?

You're going to have a hard time.
Although you could just cull all the "bad" symbols in all the entities rather then remove the words physically...
Might make it easier.

Yeah, I've got a bit of work to do. I'm fairly certain that my mother would object to all the potentially suggestive words too, so that's a bunch more that have to go. I don't care what I have to do, my brother will not be denied Dwarf Fortress!

On a bit of an offtopic note until someone with some more language-modding experience comes along..
Are you the Fenrir that vanished so many months ago?

I am that Fenrir.

Removing the words from language_words.txt seems to be sufficent, I don't think I have to remove them from the translation or symbols files. What a relief!

If you're fairly certain he won't be looking at the actual language files, you can simply add the [CULL_SYMBOL:ALL:UNTOWARD] token to all the entities, which prevents them from using any of the more "vulgar" words.

regardless, the slime shooter will be completed, come hell or high water, which are both entirely plausible setbacks at this point.
