Voxelstein 3D
« on: May 13, 2008, 12:29:00 pm »

I wonder if anyone around here knows about this one already?

This is more of an engine test than a game, but for what it is, it's fun.

This "game" is just one level, not very long, and very easy to finish once you know the world around you.
The catch to the world, as seen in the name, is that everything is made out of voxels. It doesn't make for pretty graphics, but it makes for pretty drastic changes to surroundings in the course of gameplay. Every object you see can be pulverized into individual atoms with nothing else but your knife.

And it's easily moddable too! While you can't go out of the engine's bounds, you can use the tools that are provided with the game's engine (not the game itself) to create new levels and change the look of existing models. You can also use the notepad to alter the properties of weapons you wield. I was able to make the handgrenades into a very nice rocketlauncher.   :)

Anyways, here's the link:  http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=224163 .
And the game's site.

edit: damn, what the hell's up with the url-img tags?

I just "beat" it after reading about it in another thread on here. It's very interesting.

Yeah, this one is a lot of fun.  I can't wait to see it developed further.

Much love for voxels on my part (for those who aren't 'in the know', voxels = volumetric pixels. Pixels with volume, essentially making them 3D pixels). Plus, Wolfenstein = awesome.

Even more awesome = a Rise of the Triad remake in voxels.

Hmmm.....

Lol, is the goal to run away? No boss etc.?
I killed 1 man, got his pistol randomly went to a room and broke the window. Voila, you win...

P.S. Did you see the man with a table-tennis ball in his mouth in the room with computer, Rubik's Cube and table-tennis rockets? You should break a blue door with a bar to get there. Also there's an adjacent room with a safe with "9865". And there's a counter-strike terrorist model on top of it.

P.P.S. A1s, I thought you've made a typo and meant "save", but now I see what do you mean. That black safe with the terrorist model on it? Maybe try to blow it up with a time-bomb from the toilet? I'll try it now.

If you remember the terrorist model's skin name, you'll remember what the password is.  ;)

There really isn't anything THAT important in the safe, unless you want to completely complete the level, even though there's no point in that...  I wonder, is it possible to destroy each and every voxel in the level (there are 36 millions or something)?

It's cool for a while, but the only thing that makes it worth playing at all is the voxel thing.  You should get a sword, that would own so hard, cutting people in half'n'such.

If DF goes 3d, it should be voxels like this.

Wow. It's fun as hell but I only get 3~14 FPS, and it's hard to do anything. Awesome concept though... fully, and I mean FULLY destructible environments (not like Red Faction claimed to have!)

I love this game. Whats especially fun is modding the pistol and or knife and or grenades...

I had it so that I could throw 5,000 grenades into a room, but the grenades only made 1 "damage ray" and no damage to the ground and a very high timer.

Very fun results with that, the entire room and anyone in it would be SHREDDED.

Hmmmm.  It looks a bit like Wolfenstein meets lego.

Ahh, the good old days of SS with machine guns and "Eva, auf wiedersehen"...
