Dwarf Fortress Box Art
« on: November 23, 2008, 11:49:32 pm »

I'm just wondering, has anybody made an attempt at creating Dwarf Fortress box art? I know the game doesn't come in a box, but still.

The reason I'm wondering is because I recently got an iPod Touch and just now realized the Dwarf Fortress music would make a great addition to my music collection. However, I don't really have anything to use as album art. I did a Google search for the game but couldn't find anything suitable. Suggestions?

A CD-R in a sleeve, wrapped in brown wrapping paper that had "DWARF FORTRESS v0.28.181.40d" written on it with a sharpie.
That, or a beautifully engraved puzzle box made of gabbro with spikes made of layers of hardered cotton, wrapped in the most sinister plastic blister packaging imaginable.

One could hypothetically take a screenshot of part of the title sequence.

That's your official boxart thing.

Personally, I think it should REALLY be a black sheet of paper and on it written in our current artifact format how good the game is.

"This is a Dwarf Fortress of the highest quality. It is engraved with awesomeness and encircled with bands of 1337. It menaces with spikes of nobles."

Something like this would be perfect for a DF box art even.  ;)

It's too bad the guy who was making that awesome poster disappeared.  He was even planning to generate the proceeds to Toady.

One billion b-balls dribbling simultaneously throughout the galaxy. One trillion b-balls being slam dunked through a hoop throughout the cosmos. I can feel every single b-ball that has ever existed at my fingertips, I can feel their collective knowledge channeling through my veins. Every jumpshot, every rebound and three-pointer, every layup, dunk and free throw.

Thanks for the suggestions :D I've decided to go with Yanlin's suggestion of using the official banner.

Still, I could see this game having one of those old classic PC boxes that needed to be big enough to contain like eight floppy diskettes. Plus an eight hundred page manual.

Similar to this in a few regards, except with more Dwarf Fortress and more awesome.

Not exactly from 4chan, but I'm sure if I tried I could whip up something decent.

In the fashion of old games from the early 90s that had crappy graphics, it should have an extremely stylized picture of a montage of dwarves laboring, hauling, forging, quaffing and slaughtering goblins. remember back when they had to draw fancy pictures on the boxes to hide the lack of graphics in the game?

Of course, as somebody said, the box would have to be enormous to hold the manual which would be bigger than the Oxford English Dictionary. Thank God for the internet, right?!
