If it doesn't blink, it ain't legendary.

I wonder if album covers can be GIF's...

When DF will hit v1.0 we gonna have high-tech animated box covers anyway.  ;D
Hm I cannot remember...there was a movie with techs like this. Minority Report perhaps?  ???

No &'s, we wouldn't want to spoil the HFS for the new players.
OH GOD ITS BEEN RUINED FOR ME NOW.

Unless someone else already spoiled it, they won't get it. And, do you want to have to talk to the creator of Ironblood about his icon? Didn't think so.

How about the lowtech route, one of those ridge-plate things that changes when you wave it around.  A flashing peasant, perhaps.

I suppose we could attach LEDs, and have the user plug the box in before it will open.

In case the buyers don't have any money for the game, they can barter for it with seeds and bolts of cloth!

Also... who else thinks the cover needs a randomized title? Dwarf Fortress: Tales of Hoary Marmots and Kaolinite Piccolos.

The box cover went from being something cheesy from the eighties to something super high-tech from a science fiction movie.

If time is not a concern, they're doing neat things with holograms these days...

Hey remember that funky Esquire cover with the simple 7 cells of e-ink on it from a few months back?

Using something like that you could make a blinking character on the box cover.

I reckon just a simple:

Slaves to Armok: God of Blood
      Chapter II: Dwarf Fortress

And then:

      Histories of ____ and ____

with a little slider along each side so you can switch between nouns.

Histories of Goats of Virgins!

Industry, avarice, toil, labour, gluttony, fortitude, cupidity, tenacity etc. are also nouns.

Give it that holo-foil treatment. I forget what they use, but they have a ridge-covered plastic that can display several images at once, so that as it turns, it can look animated. We could have it blink, go to a brown background, then a red one, then stop.

I see something like this fitting nicely.
That game even has the same initials!
