Speaking of Genocide and Canniblism, I was once "exerimenting" by crushing ants while on a camping trip. They carried the dead away. Also, they overpowered a gardner snake and killed it. That's when I ran. Damn ants and their stupid threatinings.

Wait. We weren't talking about canniblism?

Or try FUBAR! The best chocolate bar ever!
And you can't eat them, either, sadly. Even though it'd make sieges so much more fun; dwarves lining the walls, drooling and carrying sharp knives and forks, ready for the upcoming meals.

I don't know, i'd avoid pissing ants off. they're really organized.

We really need ants like this in DF.

Awesome thing to note about Army Ants: Those side-walls? Made of their fighter ants. And not the dead ones, all of them are alve and waiting for something to kill.

They also form bridges over waterways of, you guessed it, ants.

We must pray they never learn to make an ant catapult out of ants.

http://thinkorthwim.com/index.php?tag=ants I like the plaster model of the ant colony near the end.
it is the one most applicable to DF.

This encourages me to make a ant-Dwarf Fortress (Ant styled dwarf fortress, everything is smaller [not game smaller, just in term smaller], meaning you fight other things like bees, and etc.)

that is doomed to fail. why? because there isn't a bastardish enough equivalent to elves.

Termites.

They spit acid on you if you don't stop cutting down their food.

That... would be an awesome mod.

But what bugs would get what races? Ground Ants for dwarves, bees for humans, wasps for goblins, Plant Ants for elves and mosquitoes for kobolds.

Dwarves would be the ants that live in the ground and possibly cut leaves to grow fungus on. Plant ants live inside plants and protect them from predators.

Then megabeasts could be larger bugs, like spiders, scropions and the dreaded mouse.

I still prefer my Space Dwarves, but this would be an awesome mod neverless.
Edit: Seeing the new replies, termites might work better. Then again, Termites don't really protect the plants they live in with fury. At least, not the surface.

Actually, its going to be integrated into the weapons system.
Instead of weapons, its mandibles (Your mouth is a grasper :3)

Bows and Crossbows will be spitter mandibles. Bolts and arrows are... spitting ammo.

THe rest will be etc. mandibles. So that means ants, and etc. can spit.

So I take it the weapons will be attached to them?

[notrealismalert]ants start with no mandibles.

They *forge* the mandibles[/notrealismalert]

Until its not hardcoded that weapons are attached to them and etc, It will be better this way.

*steel cutter mandibles*
