What the hell?

Did they drown all the ants with cement?

WTF is wrong with those people?!?!?

As I recall, it's not cement, but molten metal of some sort. Perhaps lead. I can't be certain.

...molten lead?  Why not use cement or plaster?

It specifically says cement in the video.

Toady, how much of DF is inspired by Labyrinth? Is Armok actually David Bowie? Because that would simultaneously be disturbing and awesome.

Well, I was watching some other program about ants and saw some sort of molten metal being poured down an abandoned anthill. I haven't a clue why they'd use it over cement; perhaps because it's less brittle? I don't know.

Floating Ant Colonies!!! Nothing stops them!

Literal life boat. Now imagine if dwarfs could do this.

I assume they don't like ant-flavoured food.

Lead? Goodness no.

The EPA would bludgeon you to death.

I've heard of tin being used for that, but not lead.

Anyway, I don't know about the folks in that video, but most casts of ant colonies are indeed taken from abandoned nests.

Molten lead would likely flow better than cement.  Also, it hardens faster.

Molten lead would likely flow better than cement.  Also, it hardens faster.

It's also extremely hot and doesn't flow down clear plastic tubing.

Well, one assumes that if it flows better than cement, it could be poured down without the aid of tubing?

That said, a slower process like cement is what's needed for something this extensive; if the hill's too big and you use fast-cooling metal, there's a chance it won't go down.

Am I the only one who thinks they simply used a pump to force the cement in there?
