LCS 3.18.0 -- Baby, check out my Skill Sheet
« on: November 30, 2008, 02:21:10 am »

(Edit: For anyone who asked when this would be ready and I ignored them, it wasn't an intentional sleight. I was stalling until I knew, and that wasn't until just now, so I figured I'd go ahead and answer the question by releasing it now. ;))

Saves not compatible with 3.17.0 or earlier.

Windows Download:
http://www.jonathansfox.com/lcs/lcs_win32_3.18.0.zip

Source code for this release is Revision 243 on the Sourceforge 31104 branch. It should be compilable for Linux and Mac, but currently is plagued by some unfixed saving and loading bugs for these platforms.

Some highlights:
* Heavily overhauled Liberal profile pages, with new expanded skill sheet
* Made juice partially multiply base stats, partially add to them, to preserve the inherent character of your recruits and founder
* You now get more skill experience if you have high stats in that area, less if you have low stats -- this ignores juice
* Cap stats at 20 after juice is applied; still useful to have higher original stats when you're at the cap because this accelerates learning
* Elite Liberal police issue now spawns moderate Police Negotiators which use persuasion attacks and cause a negative news story if shot at
* Persuasion attacks now can stun their opponents
* Allowed you to keep LCS going while your founder is in prison without losing contact
* Love slaves hemorrhage juice, abandon LCS if their seducer is in prison and they aren't (or vice versa)
* Health is now much more effective at reducing damage in combat
* You can rescue brainwashed people before they're rehabilitated if you hit the police station before the end of the month

Everything else:
* Sleepers will no longer be assigned to heal liberals
* You will no longer kill CCS members only to see police killed in the news
* Bug: "talks like a Conservative and pretends to belong here" -- needed a name before the text, now there is one
* Altered weapon balance
* Altered character creation questions
* Age more directly determines random skill amounts
* May have brought some unintentional sentencing disasters under control
* Made juice loss for the boss when a subordinate is sent to jail proportionate to the subordinate's juice
* Fixed juice reductions when you gain juice but the gain is capped at less juice than you have now
* Brainwashed sleepers/liberals can't recruit: this is now more obvious
* Brainwashed now referred to as Enlightened in game
* Missing birthdate month and ageless liberals fixed
* Sleepers at the clinic will no longer spam you about leaving it
* Ancient homeless shelter turn passing bug fixed
* Fixed obscure crash involving car chases
* Shortened some skill names
* Removed deprecated "pawn all extra ____" option from pawn shop
* More issues are voted on per round of voting in politics
* Liberals will now stop interrogating hostages when they're converted
* People under the age limit at the gentleman's club will no longer be told they are violating the dress code
* More interrogation text
* Make horrible torture easier to get if you have no heart and are using props
* More random text for hostage threatening
* Detatched wisdom from bluffing, which is now using disguise and charisma
* Clubs skill now used for out of ammo guns, instead of improvised weapons
* Throwing skill now used for molotovs
* Manual reloads will now replace half-empty clips
* Fixed some display bugs
* Can now recruit animals at L+ animal research issue
* A couple more responses from the bouncer
* Run into smaller groups in apartment buildings, much smaller when you break into apartments
* Increased black market gun prices when they're illegal
* Altered old age effects a bit
* Fixed the bug with newspapers not displaying most news stories

...and probably even more that I don't remember

All things I was thinking of suggesting.  Awesome.

Very cool and characterful.  Every since I remembered the Free Earth Battalion, I've been thinking that at L+ cops and soldiers shouldn't even carry guns, just try to guilt and mollify people.

* Can now recruit animals at L+ animal research issue

That's...  That's just great man.

Something funny just happened.  I was arrested in the first week while disturbing the peace and found guilty (my sleeper judge didn't show up for some reason).  When I got out of prison three months later, First Aid skill had shot from 2.00 to 3.22.  Is that intentional?  I think I got like 15 juice too, but that was probably from defending myself.

On reflection, it's probably defaulting to "Healing Liberals", so it's exercising First Aid.  Which still doesn't make sense, because I don't have any members besides the sleeper judge.  Not that I have any idea how this program works.

Yeeeaah, that might explain why that plumber I was playing with mysteriously had 8 points in first aid way back. I thought there was something funny going on. I bet I know what it is, too.

Might you make the max skill column text a bit duller (or failing that, a different color) on the skill sheet? As of now, my eye is inexorably drawn to it in preference to the current skill column...

I can't make the dim lines any dimmer than than they are now without going completely black, but for the other lines, I can drop the max column down to the color of the dim ones.

Er, maybe I should just give an example.

Is that any better?

Aye, that's pretty much just what I was feebly trying to convey. :)

Erm, I'm tired and blond. I meant the max skill column on the "Profile of a Liberal" screen with stats, etc.  ::)

(Though it's nice on the Skill Screen too, IMO.)

Something else odd just happened.

I got arrested again (no luck I tells ya) and defended myself in court (got off this time).  My status listed law highlighted in white (not light gray) as 1.99+ out of a maximum 8.00.  Are there a couple different caps in play, or is it not supposed to look like that?

Wait a day and check back. White with a .99+ indicates you should have enough experience to level up the skill overnight.

Well, I changed it there too.  ;)

Since when does the Tactics skill do anything?  It just went up after a particularly long fistfight.

You now get a tactics bonus to defense. Next version it'll apply only to ranged attacks, but currently it's used for both melee and ranged.
