Kate, shift-I  is for interacting with your inventory. You can pull the arrow out yourself.

Don't do this during combat, though. You'll cause yourself bleeding (and maybe pain, I don't remember) for a few turns.

I planned to do this challenge in my newest generated world, but as I posted in the Strange Wars topic, it has a legion of all-devouring elf-demons. Worse still, I can't even reach them. Some nameless wolf always kills me in one hit before I can even find a retreat.

My dwarves go through a rigorous training schedule. It takes hours to do but then you are set to take on the world. (equivilently you could cheat and 'train' them using Dwarf Compainion in 5 seconds)

First I set them up as legendary throwers from no experience. I give them some novice swimming from the start, and then sneak and swim in a pond in an area not in danger of freezing. Do that until I'm reasonably good at swimming and sneaking. Then run over to a nearby river, dive in, and attack the sturgeons, milkfish and carp swimming there in. They will train up your weapon and armor skills. And at the same time your swimming will continue to rise. This will make you scary as hell in no time. No wolf will be able touch you, no matter how many come at you.

I once reduced what appeared to be every retreat in a civilization to ruins in an attempt at genocide.  When you wipe out every last elf, does the Legends screen say anything like "The Irritating Flowers withered in year 2012" or something?

Not that I've seen, I can check again. But the town that used to be í and is now a µ and a few times the dwarven city has turned into a µ when the remaining guard goes on patrol outside the city.

Also, any tips on catching the stragglers?  I've noticed that elves have this suicidal tendency to try and kill me when I step within sight, but the damned trees keep blocking my view.

Has anyone else managed to kill all megabeasties, sentient beings and semi-megas in a pocket world yet?

Doesn't the world pass into an 'Age of Nothingness' or something once every single thing's dead?

I wiped out all the elves and kobolds in a small world of ONLY elves, kobolds, and humans.  It ushered in the Age of Fairy Tales.  Genociding all the humans and killing my adventurer didn't bring in any new ages, though.  Booooo.

It's impossible to be upset at someone for necro-ing an elf-killing thread.

I think the slaughter part is what made them angry.

I believe someone did that back on 30d or 40d. It caused the Age to change to the Age of Nothingness like someone else mentioned! Not sure if the ages do that anymore.
