"No Trade"?
« on: December 07, 2008, 09:14:37 pm »

On the embark screen, where the red line shows up for hostile civs.

Is this an intermediate between hostility and trade, caused by ethics? The race in question has slavery as acceptable, among other things...

...other things including torture... I'm seeing if I can scale their acceptability back and get trade going.

I'm pretty sure "no trade" means either they do not have access to pack animals or they cannot physically reach you.  Perhaps they're stuck on separate islands/continents or blocked off by mountains.

They're accessible, but I had not considered the pack animals problem. I'll try that next.

The red line means they're hostile towards everyone like goblins.
I think it's usually cause by the:
Code: [Select]
[ITEM_THIEF]
[BABYSNATCHER]
tags. Removing those should solve the problem.

There are much better ways to make a race omni-hostile. Removing [CAN_SPEAK] is a good one. :P

That said, I have solved the problem; while slavery AND torture made them inhospitable, conceding and removing torture made things work just fine.

The "No trade" line is meaningless. I've had "No trade" goblins send caravan after caravan to me.

Goblins are unique in that they retain some hardcoding (trolls/beak dogs, for instance). I'm not sure if that also lets them bring caravans without the necessary prereqs.

Safer to just put in [COMMON_DOMESTIC_PACK] and [COMMON_DOMESTIC_PULL] (or whatever it is) in the entity raws.
