I Make Artifacts IRL.
« on: December 09, 2008, 02:41:45 am »

In an effort to better acquaint myself with my fellow DF addicts, I would like to share a small portion of information about myself.

This is what I do. Images in rough chronological order; last one is most recent.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

And for the record, I can rattle off the materials list for all of these from off the top of my head, up to and including where I found some of the more esoteric parts and pieces.

Thank you, and excuse any perceived self-whoring.

Dude, those are wicked.  And vaguely malevolent.  Very impressive at any rate to see someone who can actually make things.  I especially love the cowboy, it looks more like an animation still than a sculpture.

Funny you should say that, because there's one project in the works...

Also, forgive the intermittent image quality.

I would not call these artifacts for the pure fact that there is a serious lack of both menacing spikes and engravings of a human and metal. The human is shaping the metal. Masterpieces? Yes, very yes.

And while the others are cool, robotic gunslingers just press my 'awesome' button. Every time. Even the cartoony ones. Only in anime if they are robots and not androids.

Continue the good work! Let us see a dwarf with a beard menacing with spikes of beard!

Holy Foucault, these are great pieces. If the local bunch of art students over hear would do stuff like that I'd consider leaving my vault much more often. Keep it up!

Well, I say "artifacts" because of the exotic materials lists for some of these. Don't even get me started on the fishbowl piece.

I play Dwarf Fortress.

The game where we execute anyone and anything we please using overly elaborate waterworks, traps, magma, and/or catapult firing squads.

Self-whore away, good sir; I do not have a problem with people showing off their skillful craft. How little are these figures? It must have been a pain to get all those tiny little bits lined up, like the shells on the cowboy's bandolier.

Also, that skeletal bird would add a nice macabre touch to any Christmas tree. Heck, hang it anywhere, on a doorframe, in front of television ... it would be like a nagging, floating question to whomever sees it.

A skeletal bird would make a nice "pet" like a pet rock. You could sell them in nice-looking cages and in a nice pose, and have them in little costumes or hats. Just as good as a real bird, except less noise and feeding! Gets along great with cats!

Very fine craft, though I agree with Duke on one part; we need more menacing spikes, bands, and hanging rings. Also, engraving a picture of yourself making a prior artifact would be bonus awesome.

Just keep an eye on for mandates! :D

Mythic stuff.
