Fullmetal Alchemist was made by a woman, actually.
I love FMA, and I didn't know that until now.
You know how she displays herself as an anthropomorphic cow in the bonus pages of the manga?
I am wondering.. Why a cow of all things?

*shrugs* Why not? You got a problem with cows? Cows are pretty awesome. You can eat them, and they provide milk. Plus they can easily kill you but are generally pretty gentle and whatnot, it's nice. Not bad as livestock goes.

It's just one of the many things in life I tend to contemplate about.

I Don't have anything against cows.
In fact, I love cheese.

I generally enjoy anime, among the ones I really enjoy are the Macross/Robotech sagas as well as Arbitrage, Ranma 1/2 as well as Cowboy Bebop, Outlawstar and some of the funkier ones one Hulu these days. I don't stop there as my anime addiction has also led me to looking into Japanese culture in an effort to better understand what I'm watching.

Also, in the anime versions, women voiced both the brothers. Alphonse was played by Kugimiya Rie (aka all the loli tsunderes ever), and Edward was Romi Park

Have you checked out Trigun and Legend of the Galatic Heroes?

For new ones, try Jojo's Bizarre Adventure (the 2012-2015 version).

I actually just came back from Japan (fun trip), and I must say all the gate guardians sure do explain a lot.

I think it's because she's from a farming family in rural Hokkaido that raised dairy cows, at least if TV Tropes had it right.

So I'm looking at the first episode of JoJo. Apparently I mixed this up with Bobobobobo, and as a result Jojo is not what I was expecting.

This show seems cool.

Probably been confused about why we all keep talking about it, eh?

Oh man, I have been binge watching full metal alchemist:  Brotherhood.

So good.

So plot.

Competant heroes that strugge against competant enemies.

Them feels.  I'd have recommended watching the first half of the first FMA, before jumping in midway of FMA:B.

I was a fan of the Manga (Never finished it, only got halfway through), and FMA:B is faithfull to it.

Really though, one of the few shows I have seen where you just feel like the characters are competant.  Not many shows give me that feeling.  AND THEY TALK TO EACH OTHER, TOO.  They exchange information, make plans, scheme... it's great.

Yes, it is faithful all the way through... but, FMA was mostly faithful for the first 25 episodes.  FMA:B rushed through the first 10 episodes, the equivalent of those 25 from FMA.

Quote
Original FMA, up to episode 25.
FMA: Brotherhood, episode 10 and beyond.
Episode 25(and some of 24) and episode B10 are the same episode, but I'd watch it anyways to ease into Brotherhood.
There will of course be some contradictions since the original FMA did not follow the manga as closely as Brotherhood does.

The original's first 25 episodes is much more satisfying and better paced then 1-10 of brotherhood.
Intro/End Songs of original are way better too.
