Ask 'em. As a librarian, it takes about five seconds to check if there's a copy in the system (that hasn't been withdrawn or stolen). If there isn't a live copy in the system, ask them about putting in a request to repurchase. It may take a while, but rebuying part of a series when the rest of it is still in the system is a really soft sell for their content management/collection development staff, barring issues like it no longer being in print/available from their supplier. I'd suggest checking to see if they provide access to graphic e-books through their system, but something this niche probably wouldn't be there. ILL is a possibility, but comes with a whole host of its own problems even if a system they are in touch with has it available, so bear that in mind.

If all else fails, yar har har.

Well, now that I've read about half, I don't know if I'll be continuing after all. :P

Some say Evangelion is dumb and derivative with only a few memorable gimmicks, but gimmicks nonetheless. Imagine Eva without even those and you have Shinji Ikari Raising Project; it's the most boring teenage romcom imaginable. It took six full chapters for something other than a wacky misunderstanding to happen, and it still wasn't all that interesting. It's a bad sign when the best part out of ~200 pages is the short bonus gag at the end.

I mean, yeah? What did you expect Eva to be without the angst, philosophizing, and giant robots? :P

Idunno, I expected something (as in literally anything) to replace it. In fact some character bits seem to have been removed, like the one nerdy guy being a military otaku and the other guy's sister being in the hospital.

That thing is probably as far removed from Eva as you can get. First they took the characters from Eva and wrung them out and stuck them into a Princess Maker-style raising-game, then the game got adapted back into a manga. It's very unlikely that anything Eva-ish survived such a convoluted translation. Remember, Gainax are the guys who made "Neon Genesis Evangelion - Eva and Good Friends The Stripping Project!" as an official product (it's a Strip Mahjong game), including sleazy official "NGE Stripping Project" artbooks. Do not google, very NSFW. They're not exactly known for making worthwhile spin-off projects for Eva.

Gainax is what happens when a studio that mostly makes porn goes legit, honestly. Imagine what the next Marvel movie would be like if it was produced by Brazzers and be impressed that Gainax wasn't worse in the early days.

Gainax was great, because they weren't afraid to do outright crazy shit. If some of that crazy shit is terrible, that's a worthy price for the crazy good shit.

Also, porn isn't illegal; porn companies are already legit.

Also also a marvel movie by Brazzers starring someone like Evan Stone would probably be great fun, if you like your heroes campy. Brazzers seem to prefer DC though. And honestly, a DC film made by Brazzers could hardly be worse than what DC has been putting out.ç

Also also also it's not like Brazzers hasn't made SFW versions of their scripts before. Although I don't think they've done anything feature-length.

I don't think that's the meaning of legit he meant. I think he more meant a 'small-town actor becoming a big movie star' "going legit", then a 'decriminalizing our works' "going legit".

All of this trivia is fun. I knew ridiculous breast bouncing in anime is called "gainaxing" but I didn't know they literally made hentai, I just figured it was regular pervy anime stuff.

Imagine an officially licensed porn spinoff of... literally any Western franchise. Although I'll probably omit such works from my collection, it's funny to imagine nasty videos on the same shelf as Funko Pops, lunchboxes and trading cards.

The point stands though, porn companies are seen as seedy or gross.  Though eh, I guess that's particularly an American thing.

So I finally finished up the first season(?) of One Punch Man, up to episode 12 anyway.  I enjoyed it.  Genos was my favorite since his introduction of course, but I found myself caring about the other S-rank heroes towards the end.  Even green loli brat was amusingly annoying.  Samurai, dojo-master, and guy-with-a-bat brought the show... impact, I guess.

And I guess I won't spoil the ending, but Saitama's arc was interesting.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
It's the supporting characters that make it feel good, though.

I guess there are OVAs which my housemate suggested.  And maybe a second season that is very different and bad?

I watched the first two episodes of the new Ultraman and barely got engaged at all.  I'm not exactly sure why.  I guess the english dub felt really off, and in a lot of ways it just felt really predictable and... simple.  The fight graphics also didn't work for me, for some reason.  None of the attacks seemed to have impact, even when they kept impacting the ground like meteors.  It was technically impressive, but maybe lasted too long for me.

Then I watched the first two episodes of Jojo's Bizarre Adventure and it's... very unlike what I expected, but I think I'm about to have a good time.
Not sure how much of the wackiness is intentional, heh...  But I know things have barely gotten weird yet.  Just trying to murder a guy with a unique mask to avoid incriminating evidence, why not

PS: Mumen Rider is pretty cool.  He's not my favorite but I love his dedication and humility, it's truly inspiring.

I haven't started watching the adaptation, and I understand that they animation is worse, but ONE's writing continuously gets better, and the second season should have more of a story to it as well, it focuses on the best villain of the series by far, and it also gets more into the other S class heroes, which is where the series really shines I think.

I just started this recently as well, and finished the second arc this morning.
Jojo is less bizarre and more epic than I was expecting. I mean, from the title I was expecting 'Is this a Zombie?' levels of weirdness. Instead Jojo ended up being closer to Dragonball before all the aliens and transformations, which is much more tolerable. And beyond the weirdness there are constant twists and creative use of resources, and changing cast to keep things fresh. Also I like the music. But then I rarely find an anime with music I dislike.
Definitely wish I had given Jojo a chance sooner.

Well the term "literal hentai" would be confusing here, since it's not really well defined (and has no actual relevant meaning in Japanese). What is "literal" hentai here and where are we drawing the line between that and ecchi? Pretty much everything Gainax ever did is less ecchi that some of the current TV shows such as Highschool DxD, so no, they never made literal hentai.

EDIT: if we want an example of what are clearly literal hentai people who went legit, the example is clearly Hoods Entertainment, who make Seikon no Qwaser and similar animes. They were super-obviously a studio set up to give hentai artists a job in the legitimate TV anime world, and would pick up licenses too squicky for anyone else to touch (usually involving magical breasts, and/or bodily fluids as a plot device).

Then Hoods did Mysterious Girlfriend X (which is squicky but more mainsteam), got a hit series out of it, and after that they do more mainstream shows. To give you an idea how mainstream they now are, I'm watching 3D Kanojo Real Girl, a light hearted romcom shoujo anime with almost no fanservice, and just discovered (while looking up Hoods for this post) it's actually made by Hoods, the same goddamn people who made Seikon no Qwaser, one of the most perverted TV anime of all time.

I forget if the anime has the porn monkey (orangutan or something, think it was on a ship?), but it has the cyborg nazi, right? I've only read the manga so I can't really say how the bizarre progression goes. It definitely gets weirder as it goes along, though, and the general premise is fairly absurd regardless. Good stuff, really. Reason it's spoken of so readily when folks as asking for intro-to-anime suggestions.
