Rolled a new character, one of those very frail deep elf wizard.
On D:2 i find a dagger of electrocution.
On D:3 i find a staff of energy

Ok, so far it's a bit too good loot, i guess on D:4 i'll get a horde of hasted hydra near every stairs.

About increasing casting chances while wearing armors, what is the best solution for hybrids overall :
- increasing strength to lower the armor spellcasting penalty ?
- increasing intelligence to lower the spellcasting failure chance ?
- don't focus only on one but increase both (even if it means spellcasting failure will lower less and armor spellcasting penalty will lower less due to str or int being lower than if you focused point on only one) ?

forgot one, increasing armour skill decreases penalty too

Too much good loot so far, i really wonder what nasty backstabbing code the Crawl devs added to kill my character after giving him so much.

edit : can't believe it, D:5 again good loot with a staff of fire !

on D:6 i ran into Crazy Yiuf and killed him, i noticed he had more hammers in his place than usual, and there was an eveningstar :

Orc priests I can see taking people down, but how do you lose to a gobbo or a kobold. :S

Tab-fight a goblin who happens to have a distortion/draining dagger. Autoexplore into a kobold with curare needles.

Ok, tomahawks don't sever hydra heads, now I should be good to kill them with 8 throwing skill + Heroism if I need it. Now hopefully the part about his ammo and equipment gifts being on separate timers is true. If I run into the Swamp I'll put a little more into throwing, since I don't want to be using Heroism every fight there.

Those kind of dungeon variation is really great to break a bit the repetition of corridor over opening then back to corridor.
A bit like the orc fortress (it's been a long time i didn't see this one) or the spriggan jungle (not sure if it's still in there)

The spriggan jungle is definitely still in. I find it almost every time I reach Lair.

Cool that they kept the fortress and the jungle, i hope one of my future character will run into it (though from my memory the Spriggan jungle was filled of yasd sources, so i'm not hoping to run into it that much :D )
I think the orc/gnoll population may be random, in past version i ran mostly into orcs ones, but sometimes i ran into the gnoll version too.

Those dungeon features are really great to make the dungeon exploring less generic and so more interesting.

My deep elf is still alive, cleared Lair entirely and just cleared Orcs entirely (i got the Orcs:4 in which there was a big room filled with ogres, 2 headed version and ogre mages)
I reached level 15 and i'm back in my Lair:2 "base" now thinking about either exploring a bit more of the main dungeon before trying a branch (Shoal or Spider Nest).

Some observation after playing several 0.15 characters :
I like that the encumbrance is removed now, i observed it has cut a lot of my "back to my base" travel to drop items, that wasn't interesting gameplay at all, now more focus on what is actually interesting instead of annoying uneventful travels.
For the lack item destruction, i found out that now i'm not reluctant anymore to bring scrolls and potions to assist me during my exploration instead of just letting most of them on my "base" because in the past a single fire/frost shot was enough to destroy several of those, much better for the gameplay in the end.

Encumbrance/item destruction being gone is great, I just think they need to tone down consumable generation. Right now you'll usually have more than enough consumables to use whenever you want. I'd like it if it was more of a decision to chug Might.

They did tone down consumable generation, particularly of Curing and Heal Wounds potions.  I think it's quite noticeable during the crucial early game period (where there wasn't previously much item destruction anyway).
