I think it's safe to answer any question that contains "How good of an idea is it to go to slime without rCorr" with "Absolutely not." You can squeak through sometimes, but it's just not smart and it's way too easy to lose a really solid character to corrosion.
It is actually very possible to finish Slime Pits without any rCorr at all :D Being able to hit and damage faster than those slimes can corrode you (as well as run and take a break, since all levels before the 6th have a FINITE amount of slimes, which along with the perimeter of the 6th can become a relative safezone to weather the corrosion). You can even just go straight to the staircase on each floor and clean the surrounding area--slimes don't accumulate at each stairway due to them not being able to hear well or see well.

Taking on the Royal Jelly in a few shots and then running up the stairs to avoid all those Azure/Death jellies is also a very useful idea. It's not impossible to finish with rCorr (because I'm one of the 'not smart ones' who has always--in the characters who have lived--gotten the Slime rune as their 3rd rune post-2-other-lair-branch runes). x3 Instead of focusing on something that applies Corrosion, given the increments of -4, what is better is hitting quick, hard, and getting away given the change of 'permanent corroding' to 'temporary corroding', especially since the combination of 'which slimes corrode' + damage potential = inadvisable prolonged fights.

Though those are my experiences alone ._. I remember when corrosion was a KILLER and something totally needed to ward off by resistance (A few versions earlier, the 'red jelly' was amongst the most hated early game enemies because they both eat things, and apply -1 decrements to your weapons/armor, permanently). Now, it's less of a 'need' and more of a convenience to focus or redirect your generic amulets/rings on.

And I finally won with a MiFiOka. It wasn't too difficult, but I had a few close calls. Notable events:
Got the Sword of Jihad, which makes the normal endgame a joke
Just after grabbing the orb, I got surrounded by a bunch of demons and pan lords and got down to 3 HP before reaching the stairs
I found the +0 cloak of Jigsaw {rF- Str+7 Dex+3 Slay+5} at the bottom of Lair, which made things much easier
I ate/quaffed every single ingestibale source of mutation I could
My base Str was only 24, but I had +17 through items
Until late Depths, the only resistances I had were rF++ and rPois. I only got all of them after clearing the Crypt and Elf.

Also, how was the order I used (Dungeon down to Lair, clear Lair, clear Dungeon, clear Orc, clear Snake, clear Vaults to 4, clear Shoals, clear Depths, clear Vault:5 clear Elf, clear Abyss, clear Zot)? Are there issues with my character build? How far could I have taken this character?

You probably could have gone for 15 runes. Full resists is quite impressive at this stage of the game. The Sword of Jihad and the Amulet of Cekugob both have quite nasty side effects, both of which are quite capable of getting you killed against really dangerous foes. If you could find a replacement amulet before the truly nasty places like Dis, you'd most likely be fine. I'd also switch to TSO and Holy up your double sword as an endgame weapon.

As far as branch order goes, that's pretty solid. I would definitely have cleared Crypts and Elf before doing Vaults:5 though. Neither is too terribly difficult by that time and you need lots of resists for Vaults:5.

In my new playthrough, I got a -8 buckler (+blink, int+2). It might be the worst randart I've ever gotten - it actually makes my SH negative when I equip it.

What do you guys think a negative SH would do?

Lets use the ancient naval art of training war parrots. No one will realize they have been boarded by space war parrots until it is to late!
You can fake being able to run on water. You can't fake looking cool when you break your foot on a door and hit your head on the floor.

Presumably, it would make enemies more able to hit you than if you weren't wielding the shield.

What considerations should I make when trying to kill TRJ as a melee character? rCorr is a given, but would a scroll of immolation be worth using?

Edit: Scrolls of immolation 10/10, would explode TRJ again.

Maybe it's a magnetic tarp with a bulls-eye painted on it.

I'm at 27 in Long Blades and 0 in M&F. Currently I have a +1 randart speed-branded Triple Sword that also blocks my teleportitis, a +4 Eudemon blade, and a +5 Sacred Scourge. Which weapon is best for Pan exploration?

There used to be an unrandart shield like that, the Bullseye, giving great SH in exchange for EV. It was merged with the Shield of the Gong to make one ridiculous shield to rule them all.

I wish I could find Shield of the Gong in my Qazlal runs. Get the authentic Zot Defense experience.

Bleh. I died to a random Pan floor where a bunch of smiters were on the other side of a runed door. This was after easily getting all but the Dis, Cocytus, and Tartarus runes. At least I've learned my lesson about smiting.

Eudemon blade, no question. Speed brand on a Triple Sword might actually outweigh holy, IF it was more then a +1. Sacred Scourge is nice, but not worth training up M&F specifically for it. As for your teleportitis, Zin might be of help. Zin gives 100% rMut at max piety and lets you cure all mutations once, as well as several other very nice abilities, although you'd need to train Invocations a fair bit for Recite to come into its own.

M8, that's got nothing on that Hellion vault which has oodles of Hellions dropping Damnation on you all at once. Even the most robust character can only take a few turns of that before dropping. There are several similar vaults in Pan. They're when I feel the best about having Tornado and Fire Storm, usually.

The first rule of Pan is to avoid the Hellion vault no matter what your character is.
