Bloody hell... and no I'm not in Gehenna or Tartarus. :P

I pitted 99 orcish warriors against the Royal Jelly. The Royal Jelly won.

99 orc high priests won without too many orcs dead. Perhaps half survived. Why can't my Beoghites summon demons?!

Pretty impressive. Also, that's good to know, in case I ever run a Beoghite again and make it as far as the slime pits.

question:
version .17

level 13 green draconian conjurer of Nemelex Xobeh.
Melee skkilled in shord blades at about 5.
I just found the +18 shield of the Gong {rElec rN+ MR+ Ev-5}

is it worth raising shields skill to use this thing? This would be such a boon on any of my HillOrc Fighters, but for a Draconian Conjurer?
I mean, 18 shield is nice, but -5 evasion? I have two rings of evasion (+2 and +3), and one of magical power. Seems the 15 skill to remove the shield penalty might make it more trouble than it's worth. IDK.

Note that Shield of the Gong also generates large amounts of noise whenever it blocks something. If you're doing extended and have noisy level 9 spells already, its really great, especially for Draconians who lack body armour. Otherwise, 15 Shields is expensive and the BONG can be deadly if you get caught vulnerable.

Thanks guys. That's a help!

Man, I hate the 'no remove curse' rounds. I've had this cursed ring of teleportation for six or more levels so far, and this cursed ring of poison resistance is a little uselss, considering I am playing a green draconian. ...

I'm pretty sure I just got the worst Ziggurat Sprint level ever:

Code: [Select]
  3752 | D        | Entered arena 25.
  3752 | D        | Noticed Aizul
  3752 | D        | Noticed Ilsuiw
  3752 | D        | Noticed Agnes
  3752 | D        | Noticed Nikola
  3752 | D        | Noticed Edmund
  3752 | D        | Noticed Grum
  3754 | D        | Noticed Murray
  3755 | D        | Noticed Rupert
  3755 | D        | Noticed Pikel
  3759 | D        | Noticed the Enchantress
  3760 | D        | Noticed Mennas
  3761 | D        | Noticed Margery
  3764 | D        | Noticed Saint Roka
  3764 | D        | Noticed Asmodeus
  3765 | D        | Noticed Chuck
  3766 | D        | Noticed Nellie
  3766 | D        | Noticed Tiamat
  3766 | D        | Noticed Erica
  3776 | D        | Noticed Xtahua
  3776 | D        | Noticed Kirke

I actually got 14 of them before Xtahua killed me with a sneeze, too.

Also, check out this monster piece of armor I got on a successful Ziggurat Sprint, a few runs after. On the 26th floor. -_-

Code: [Select]
+17 crystal plate armour of Qiargh {rPois MR+ Dex+4}

Covenant, the only thing that Crawl "wants" you to be is dead.

That said, I vote bow.

ouch. I've been playing a lot of Draconian Conjurers lately. Haven't gotten a single rune yet. I die in lair mostly, though draconian conjurers seem to have a decent time of it in the orc mines. I hate it though - lair is right when I start feeling that I have an actual character. everything up to that is just building a starting package. So frustrating.

There was a 4-headed hydra on D:6. I took an escape hatch to D:5. (All of the up-stairs were nearby, too.) I fell through a shaft on D:5, after finally killing Dow/Duv and an annoying Ed with a dist-flail... but I fell for two floors. Thanks, Crawl! Now I can ignore D:6 and everything above it, until I'm skilled enough to defeat hydrae.

GhMo^Oka btw.

Posting here because I kept looking at the thread before I made my account but never got around to trying the game. Since I know it's free, maybe having a post here will remind me to download and try it.

No download required, just play online at one of several servers. http://crawl.akrasiac.org:8080 being probably the most popular.

Using this link might be smarter, especially if you're not American. It redirects you to the server closest to you so that there'll be less lag.

I'd suggest downloading it for the full experience - I've never found the web version worked particularly well for me.

Does anyone have any idea what the thinking was behind removing wands of heal wounds/teleportation/hasting and high elves? I've trash talked high elves in the past for being worse than deep elves in terms of blastiness, but I found them interesting to play when I wanted a challenging hybrid sword-using thing. They weren't 'too' similar at all. They were terrible at necromancy and earth and had a lot easier time getting fighty. Finding artifact weapons on a high elf actually gave me something to think about in terms of combat. On deep elves they're mostly just stat sticks. I never played a high elf and thought "Gee I may as well be playing a deep elf right now. I mean I'm going to train all of the same skills and spells regardless of what aptitudes I have because ELF, so this is really grindy and needs to be removed". How wrong am I?

They removed wands of teleportation, heal wounds, and hasting? I'm still on 0.17, so I did not know that. maybe I'll stay on 0.17 a while longer yet.

At least until I get my second win, anyway.
