I levelled evocations so I could use the crystal ball of energy reliably.

Lets use the ancient naval art of training war parrots. No one will realize they have been boarded by space war parrots until it is to late!
You can fake being able to run on water. You can't fake looking cool when you break your foot on a door and hit your head on the floor.

Crystall ball is extremely powerful at lvl 27 evocations and is easily complemented with a staff of channeling.

It's how I won my 15 rune demigod.

I saw Mara in Spider so I teleported away. Before I got the chance to do anything else, I got hit by a stone arrow (from my ghost), an orb of destruction (from an orb spider), a bolt of fire (from Mara), an iron shot (from my ghost), and a +4 demon trident (from Mara). I died to the 150+ damage.

Protip: Only ever play as vampires, ghouls or mummies... That way, you never leave any terrifying ghosts behind to kill promising runs later on!

I should definitely write the Prima strategy guide for this.

Mara is a unique that creates a player ghost/summon that behaves just like a ghost. Hence why I didn't run when I saw just Mara or just my ghost - they showed up at the same time (well, with a one-turn delay for Mara to cast the spell).

I do not have particular good equipment. As you can imagine, I have a hard time to fight monsters that are hex immune. Besides stabbing, my only offensive spell is Dazzling spray. I recently started to train necromancy to be able to cast Dispel Undead and Draining Bolt. What would you recommend to branch into? I could buy books with dragon/hydra form, however I have no experience with transmuters. I could also learn Discord. Would this be worth the investment? What about evocations? I completely ignored it...

I've usually found Discord to be a bit underwhelming, considering how much of a pain it is to get, but its still quite good against large packs of monsters, especially living ones. Since you've trained Hexes so obscenely high, it might not be a bad idea to get. How much of a failure chance would you have if you learned it immediately? Generally, Invisibility is a good thing for stabbers to use on things that resist hexes, but you don't seem to have the spellbook on you. Maybe check if there's something with evokable invisibility lying around the dungeon? Another thing to check the dungeon for is a short blade with the pain brand: If you're branching out into necromancy, pain is a very good brand that can kill most living creatures quite easily when attached to a quick weapon. Definitely no to branching out into Transmutations, since that requires very high levels of Unarmed to be successful. Polearms would be a better choice, seeing as you have Wyrmbane and that Depths/Zot are both saturated with dragons. As for Evocations... you only have one good Evocations item[Lightning Rod], so I'd probably delay training that until you have a way to reliably kill monsters. Also, have you cleared Vaults 1-4 yet? If not, then its much much safer there then in Shoals/Depths.

To summarize:

1: Look for evokable invisiblity and a pain branded short blade.
2: Check your failure rate for Discord and learn it if its at 20% or below.
3: Clear Vaults 1-4 and Swamp[If it generated] before even thinking about Depths.
4: If you haven't found a pain short blade, consider maybe using Wyrmbane for non sneak attacking purposes, since its good and Spriggans can wield it.

I'd raise shields and fighting a few levels for some surviveability. Invisibility, Darkness, Ozocubu's Armour and Swiftness can help you with stair-dancing. Evocations sucks. You have enough necromancy to learn some necromancy spells but I've never raised it that high so I don't know what's available. Regeneration's not terrible. Never used it, but you will probably need Discord for silver rune. Irradiate does good area damage. If you go dragon's form then you'll need to learn unarmed combat.  And your aptitudes are -2. I'd stick with short blades, or switch to spellcaster. I find stabbers have a difficult lategame. Go clear Vaults:1 to 3 for some experience and raise your surviveability. Don't enter Vaults:5 until you have Discord and a haste potion and blink scroll. Sentinel's Mark + locked staircase will wreck you. If you're planning on a 15-rune you might just want to go full polearms. And for God's sake, clear some layers of the Elven Halls and Vaults.

Thanks for the advice. In the meantime I went to Vaults and cleared 1-2.

@FakerFangirl: Unfortunately, I do not have access to the spells you mention.

@Arcvasti: there is only a dagger of pain somewhere. Would it make a difference to the +7 dagger of venom?

Also the only source of Invisibility is some artefact quarterstaff. Discord would have a failure rate of 7%

Another thought is that shoals shouldn't be too difficult with that character if you're careful.  You're probably going to have to stair dance a bit, but confuse with some meph cloud for the high MR enemies will take care of everything except for water elementals.  If you can find Mana Vipers spell then it'll make the whole thing trivial, otherwise you just have to be careful about getting engulfed by nymphs/elementals.

I'd learn Discord and grab the pain dagger to start enchanting it up later. Ignore the invis quarterstaff, it wouldn't help much. I don't know at what Necromancy breakpoint it'll be better then +7 venom, but it'll definitely reach that point eventually. Also, note that multiplicative brand damage is further multiplied by stab damage, which means that Freezing/Flaming/Holy Wrath daggers are very good stabbing brands. Then I'd probably train Hexes to 18-19, get Necromancy and then Evocations to 12-15ish and then probably go primarily for Fighting/Dodging[Your Fighting is very very low and might even take priority over the other skills I mentioned, actually]. Good Evocations items to look for include the following: Wands of Acid, Iceblast and maybe Scattershot, Box of Beasts, Phantom Mirror, Sack of Spiders or any of the misc elemental evokers. Good spells include Deflect Missiles[Eventually, since it requires some investment], Animate Dead/Skeleton[Get ASAP so you have minions to hide behind], Blink, Summon Butterflies and of course Darkness/Invisibility/Mana Vipers.
