Woo! Go LASD! What's next on the list of hideously bad-sounding characters that turn out awesome?

Also, DJ, you can really only run as soon as you see them, unless you have an escape item. What I recommend is leaving levels with large amounts of orcs on them alone. There's probably a staircase to the orcish mines or something. What races do you play as?

Actually, you can run around in circles (to heal of course).
As for melee, I would suggest that divine support is your best bet. Try trollish bezerkers or monks, as they starve fast but eat every damn thing that moves. They also get tons of health and heal like hell.

Only after they've stopped it from moving.  But yeah, everything that's not innately poisonous (damn kobolds) is food, and they can still eat their vegetables (which other corpse-eaters have a hard time doing).

Trog seems almost perfectly tuned to trolls...  Just something primal about it.  Another good Trogger would be the ogre, since they don't starve quite as quickly (which means more sacrifices to almighty Trog) and can actually make use of Trog's gifts of weaponry.

I'm going to have to try some strange combinations, just to see what happens...

The numbers are generally going to indicate bonus to hit, and bonus damage in that order.

I love Crawl! I haven't played this game in years, and someone kept developing it and now there is an online version :D  Just have to figure out the buttons now, as I skipped the tutorial.

Spriggan assassins/poison mages/stalkers were my favorite for a long time, they are very quick. And does anyone know if I can play the online version with tiles??

It's always on levels 4-7. What I usually do is go on a cursory look through all of them to see if any of them has any unusual features (metal walls, etc. The Temple appears on levels like that a lot), and them thoroughly explore them if I can't find the entrance.

The only time I found the temple it was in the middle of a pond. I was worshipping Trog anyway, so it didn't matter. Also, how can I connect to the crawl.akrasiac place?

From the last thread:
On the topic of figuring out how to work the telnet, without this guide I would have never made it.
Very handy guide, so handy in fact that adding it to the OP wouldn't be a bad idea.

And no, there's no tiles on the telnet version as telnet is only comfortable sending out symbols, I think.

In general or on an altar?  If it's an altar, just drop the item in question while you're standing on the altar.  If it's some critter's corpse, first [p]ray, and then but[c]her the corpse.  Be careful about this, as you might end up accidentally sacrificing a corpse that you were planning on eating (any corpse butchered while under the effect of a prayer will be sacrificed).

Nemelex Xobeh just requires you to pray while standing on some items.  Different types of items will make him give you different card flavors (weapons will grant decks for blowing stuff up, armor will grant decks for getting out of harm's way, corpses will grant summoning decks.  There are a couple other types, but I'm not entirely sure about what they do or how to get them).
