You have some funny artifacts there... a ring mail of pessimism? a shield of context? Boot of boiling hail?

Boots of eternal night and a ringmail of pessimism. You must have been the first emo out of the dungeon  :). I never seem to get lucky with artifacts.

With pure AC gear on, I have 50 AC, but no resistances. How sick is that? Is there a way to force followers to pick up certain items? I'm planning on going through the Crypt, and I want everyone to have holy wrath weapons.

Check the key binding's. One of them lets you choose what your followers pick up, not specifically but between nothing, what you drop, and everything. I think they will always choose the best equipment if it allowed.

ARG!

519160 AlStar the Slayer (level 26, 0/261 HPs)
Began as a Grey Draconian Fighter on Apr 18, 2009.
Was the Champion of The Shining One.
Slain by an iron troll (15 damage)
             ... in Pandemonium on Apr 22, 2009.
The game lasted 11:38:58 (105957 turns).

Well, Trog finally got even with me for leaving him. I ran into a Pan lord that cast torment and also summoned fiends who also cast torment. After hitting 13 HPs, I decided that maybe I'd leave him be... so I run away, and what happens? Trog decides that THAT moment would be the best time to show his displeasure at my leaving him for a more demon-killing focused god - summons trolls and ogres all around me. Berserker Iron Trolls NORMALLY wouldn't be a problem, especially since I can teleport myself, but at ~25 HPs...

I'd collected runes from Snake, Swamp, Vault, Dis and Tartarus and one of the Pan runes.

My favorite bit of equpiment:

a - the +9,+9 Blessed Blade (weapon)
(The Shining One gifted it to you in the Ecumenical Temple)
It has been blessed by the Shining One to cause great damage to the undead
and the unholy creatures of Hell or Pandemonium.

This was originally a katana (first one I've ever seen, actually) that I found in a shop. Bought it for 660 gold, turned out that it was a +6,+5 katana. Score! Slowly got it up to +9,+9 vorpal, then when I dumped Trog and got high enough with The Shining One, I turned it into a Blessed Balde - thing sliced through demons like they weren't there.

Vanquished Creatures
  Ereshkigal (Tar:7)
  Dispater (Dis:7)
  Mnoleg (Pan)
  2 ancient liches (Crypt:5 Vault:8)
The ghost of puffycloud the Blademaster, a legendary HaMo (Pan)
  Boris (thrice) (D:22 D:24 D:26)
  Margery (Vault:2)
  Geryon (D:21)
  6 demon lords (Pan)
...
3754 creatures vanquished.

Maybe I should have just taken Zot, been content with a 6 rune win, but dammit, I really expected to pull off a 15 rune win.

Character's here: http://crawl.akrasiac.org/rawdata/AlStar/morgue-AlStar-20090422-234720.txt for anyone interested.

Tough luck! please accept my condolences...

In my last successful game I left Kiku for Makhleb, because it became almost impossible to keep Kiku's piety high... then I had a very similar situation (torment, fiends, more torment, more fiends, 15 HP, Kiku summons 10 reapers)... But I was lucky enough to blink away.

a - the +9,+9 Blessed Blade (weapon)
(The Shining One gifted it to you in the Ecumenical Temple)
It has been blessed by the Shining One to cause great damage to the undead
and the unholy creatures of Hell or Pandemonium.

Mmmm... a weapon of my dream. I always take long blades as my main weapon skill only because I hope to find katana. But I never found it. Very rare thing.

Though that +7,+8 blessed eudemon blade of holy wrath I took from an angel in Abyss (originally it was +3, +2) sliced through demons quite well too.

Could I get some tips for this game? I suck at it really bad, as my characters always die right after levels one to five.

Am I missing something?  I have only had one char get to level 7 (troll fighter i think) and then quickly died on level 6 of the dungeon.  ??

First, read some basic advices in CrawlWiki http://www.chaosforge.org/crawl/index.php?title=CrawlWiki.  (But be careful if you don't want to read spoilers)

Second, play carefully, try to keep control over the situation. Learn when to run and when to fight.

Third, practice makes perfect.

Just had an idea with god-swapping. Since the "good" gods don't care about swapping to a good god, would it be possible to do Shining One -> Elyvilon/Zin -> Evil God to avoid the Shining One's retribution? Elyvilon has really really tame retribution.

I was asking for a God for my Merfolk Crusader, but I decided I would forgo waiting for an answer and simply experiment with Makhleb, who I've never worshiped.

Haha.

I just found the +0, +12 Glaive of Prune in a shop.
15 damage, -3 to hit.

"It is the creation of a mad god, and carries a curse which transforms anyone who carries it into a prune. Fortunately, the curse works slowly, and one can briefly use it with no consequences worse than slightly purple skin and a few wrinkles".

I'm going to buy this when I have the cash, considering I've been using spears since the beginning.
