I went down to the orcish mines.  I can just stay there for a sec, then I can get out.  No such luck.  Turns out that a mage was able to tele me to level 4 of the orcish mines, and I couldn't escape.

No monster spellcaster can teleport you across level depths - in reality, you must have fallen through a shaft trap if you ended up on a lower level.

Sounds about right.  I suppose the fact that he cast a spell that did nothing made me suspect it (but that may have been due to my ring of resist slowing).

This has got to be one of the lamer deaths i've had with a promising character(second only to the char I lost in the Vault due to slipping on a bannana peel in an offline game):

Do not use the wand of random effects, it only brings tragedy.

Don't you mean amulet of resist slowing?

Hah!  Thats nothing.

381927 Solvent the Destroyer (level 26, 98/102 HPs)
Began as a Kobold Air Elementalist on Aug 8, 2009.
Was the Champion of Sif Muna.
Took a swim in molten lava
... on Level 7 of the Elven Halls on Aug 11, 2009.
The game lasted 11:15:52 (149208 turns).

my Flight spell gave out over a lava tile as I retreated from the Elf:7 vault.

KoAE alot of fun early, but this game had become a bear.  Bad loot, annoying mutations and no cure found the entire game.  I should've done V8 instead of Elf.  Oh well, back at it.

Could someone sign me up for soapers ?

I was playing crawl quite a lot some time ago, but I never managed to get any higher than clevel 21 or so.

Edit: My nick has capital D in it, otherwise it's same.

GAWDDAMNIT the "how to win" diagram didnt say anything about low stats! I believe the zot trap put my INT below 0, watch the HP  :(  What a way to go down .... was my most promising run so far, anyway.

Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup version 0.5.1 (crawl-ref) character file.

74823 Puck the Hacker (level 15, 142/143 HPs)
Began as a Mountain Dwarf Fighter on Aug 11, 2009.
Was a High Priest of Okawaru.
             Forgot to breathe
... caused by a Zot trap
... on Level 4 of the Snake Pit.
The game lasted 03:26:02 (36758 turns).

In the tutorial it advises raising all stats to 8 to avoid stat death (I'm presuming your heart stops at 0 strength, and something bad happens at 0 dex).  Would raising them to 8 make you safe?

You get crushed under your own weight at 0 strength and slip on a banana peel on 0 dexterity.

Only to one stat drop, if you get hit on that stat again by a stat drain you are doomed. This pretty much applies to only a few enemies.

Huh, apparently someone ditched the B12 Soapers so apparently we do have two slots open. I'm giving one to Dragooble (who seems to not be very active and seems to have signed up - not that I have been) and the other to you.

What? There are a limited number of spaces? Is this just for that contest?

There should be normal clans with no cap on people so we can compare our scores to other bay12-ers.
