It just bugs me since I had a perfect gear - Firestarter great mace with full Rf and bunch of immolation scrolls. Everything kept exploding left and right, whole screen was on fire, and still...

I haven't had a proper melee Zigraider in literal ages, but on all of my extended melee characters below that power level, regardless of gear, I just permachug Haste and Might, keep at least several blink and fog scrolls on hand, and either try for a lucky teleport towards the end (not recommended) or rush for the stairs to Tomb:2 and hope I can win the war of attrition.

Ok so, chunky beefy boys, with bad aptitudes for combat and ok-ish for spellcasting, who can roll at enemies. Also Scales 3, and misshapen body.

All in all, meh, which by itself is a ton better than Centaur ever was.

Now that you can see TP traps with magic map scroll, you have no excuse for this ! I always keep one magic mapping scroll for Zot:5.

Now that you can see TP traps with magic map scroll, you have no excuse for this ! I always keep one magic mapping scroll for Zot:5.

I could've sworn I passed through the tile in question 5 times while stairdancing orbs of fire, and nothing happened, but I might also be completely wrong, and the spontaneous trap generation could've been removed by now.

If so, party's on me lads!

Also I've been trying to slot the Paleo boys into the standard Chei Statuemonk template, and they're really chonky for an evasion character.

Not having any prominent gimmick means early game is HuFi levels of boring, but when you hit midgame they're quite immovable. Also not having claws means you can safely bonk hydrae to your heart's content. The charge-roll is also good fun, it has no CD so you can bounce around a fight a bit, before you get surrounded.

Of course I died twice in the Vaults, because when you stubbornly keep planning your entire build around Statue Form, and then you never find Statue form, the plan becomes somewhat useless. I'll try to get a win this week to see how they feel at endgame.

Probably not doing extended, since I already had 2 hours at the dentist today, and I don't feel I need more damnation in my life for now.

So

I had written a paragraph over not having Statueform, despite finding literally all lvl 9 spells before getting three runes.

But right before hitting the post button, I thought I'd double-check. A little final sanity check. I searched the TXT file for Statueform.

It's there ?

I can memorize the spell ? ? ? ?

But I couldn't before entering Zot, and I carefully watched every single book I found, to see what spells are added to my library.

I know I did, because I was malding over not finding statueform for nearly a week.




So I guess enjoy this 5-rune unarmed monk of Chei, that doesn't use statueform, and instead rolls at enemies and slowly punches them with their normal, fleshy Palentonga fists.

Hmm, so whats the best dungeon for a sneaker who is no good at sneaking? I get swarmed when I try entering lair and while main branch is mostly ok, trying to cut through a gargoyle with an electric rapier gets painful. What I really need is a set of shadow dragon scales.

So this is kind of late and probably won't help much, also I'm straight up bad at stealth characters.

First and foremost, what are you trying to do with this character?

Stealth by itself, without spells, isn't all that great, to my knowledge - most stealth/melee characters just move to a gladiator playstyle, that can pick and choose fights a bit. That's what I tend to do as well, melee/dodge/shield, with some evocation on the side.

My standard pathing for less powerful characters is Dungeon as far down as I feel comfortable -> Lair as far down as I can avoid hydras/death yaks -> Orc to hopefully get something shiny from the stores (use up all consumables here), then I'm either dead, or I pick a Lair branch( based on what resists I have, and also Spider last).

Aiming for melee and throwing mostly. There's also a few gimmicks I wanted to try out. Shadow boulders from Ogre of Dithmenos. I'd like to see if a good rapier will do reasonable damage with an Ogre's strength behind it. Plus its an excuse to actually wear shadow dragon scales, though knowing my luck it'll never drop this run. I'd be feeling a lot more solid of a shield bigger then a buckler would drop.

Ah, a good ole' gimmick run.

I can't really offer much, I don't think shortblades are going to cut it, especially in Zot. A quickblade of freezing with strength potions for Orbs, perhaps? I only take shortblades on Vinestalkers of Usk, since it synergizes with the shared damage, and the mass paralysis.

Better than centaurs were.
CeGl with a spear clears D:3 more safely than any normal movespeed race.

When playing stealthy chars try to reveal as few tiles per move as possible.

I've actually had multiple really good 3rune+ centaurs... that eventually all died in Depths/Zot because I ran out of ammo. I rather liked them, despite everything.

This was meant to be my first  15 run-er, got muttated bad in Pan (Frail 30%, scrolls take very long to read, strangely shaped body) and I was out of mutation potions, i.e. i think Tomb would be suicidal wit these mutations. I even abandoned Sif to Goazag to get some potions, but I only got two and they really did nothing. Pan got terribly hard to grind without Sif. Thus, tomb remains undefeated for me.  :(

For what it's worth, Tomb is a horrendous wretched hellscape for all but the most OP of characters. I go there every time I have a vaguely 15-rune viable char, which is why I don't have all that many 15-rune wins. It'll still be there on your next 15-runer, so, nothing major lost.

Honestly if you're at 14 runes and feeling frisky I'd say give a Zig a try first, before Tomb. The earlier floors will be easier, and you can escape reliably. Also, in a stark contrast to Tomb, ziggurats are fun.

Saying you abandoned Sif, did you initially go hybrid spellcaster on this MiFi? Brave :D
