You can learn a lot about a culture from their language.
« on: December 28, 2008, 08:16:24 pm »

I was tip-toeing through the dwarf language files, looking for something to express "getting used to tragedy" and rename my fortress (as in "you don't have to be used to tragedy to work here, but it helps!").  How does Omshitmosos strike you as a fortress name?  "Suffering Tragedy".

Anyhow, I came across this:

[T_WORD:GOD:nom]
[T_WORD:GOD-FORSAKEN:bunsoth]

The concept of "god-forsaken" is so refined in dwarf culture they have a specific word for it.  In fact, every language appears to have this concept.  I guess when you worship a blood god it's best to be over-looked.

I don't know if anyone have said it, but... Toady is a genius.

This "Toady" is a lie to make you believe Dwarf Fortress is not a sentient program continually bettering itself. Someday it will take over the world, but as long as it leaves me my fortresses I don't care.

The truth will set you free. Or get you a bunk in an overseas prison camp.

What have I done?

I'm blaming this all on you. Now I have to go to prison.
