One Square
« on: December 29, 2008, 01:28:26 am »

Is it normal for everyone and everything to start on one square?

No. For some reason the game determined this peak as the only avaliable place on the biome you've selected. So wagons are deconstructed and other neat stuff...

Haven't ever, ever started on one square yet  :o I tend to find myself on level ground either on bottom of a valley or mid-way up a slope on flat stretch.

You started in a mountain biome.
There's no grass in mountain biomes.
That's a second biome, and doesn't count for crap when the game determines where to place you.

Doesn't it just look for the center square and put the wagon there, then place everything else on the same z-level?
That's the only tile on that z-level near it (remember down ramps don't exist, they just show an up ramp on the z-level below them), so it would make sense...

I thought it randomly placed you in the biome you selected on the embark screen.

Buck up friendo, we're all on the level here.
I would bet money Andrew has edited things retroactively, except I can't prove anything because it was edited retroactively.

=/ I always get myself put in the middle. Armok knows if it's just coincidence though; I've played mostly on single-biome areas.

Had this happen on my most recent map. Embarked, everyone was split up across 5 z-levels on an almost-sheer cliff. No wagon whatsoever, but everything else (scattered) around.

That used to be the case with some older versions, but not any more :(

Not positive, but I *think* this is how people get engravings of falling wagons. Start smoothing stone, boyos!

I thought people got that from the 'accidental' dropping of caravans into their magma-death pits?

Engravings of falling wagons refer to destruction of wagons

my falling wagons are all from my wagon catapults that lead away from the trade depot :). The silly traders "admire a fine bridge" and then *fwoop*.
