On a more serious note, this thread makes me fervently wish for more than 16 possible colors.
Can be done iirc, via cloth dyes. You'd have to mod in more dyes, but they're fully RGB-customizable I think- descriptor_color_standard combined with matgloss_plant.
Neither whole, nor broken. Interpreting this post is left as an exercise for the reader.
