I think "weeks" is a little crazy. Seriously, I don't think it would take Toady several dozen man-hours just to do the busywork portion of it, and the more important parts pale in comparison to what he's doing now.

I mean, this release has taken a lot of tedious busywork as well, I'm sure, like material properties. I just think you're very seriously overestimating the amount of time requiring.

And yeah, people on the forums were just as impatient then as they are now. :P

OMG, Dame, that is so true.

To be perfectly honest, I can't even remember that time - I'm sure I was just as impatient as now, but I guess enough time has passed.  As soon as this release is out, the month or so of bug fixes to stabilize it has come and gone, then the new dev list will be posted and this will start all over again...(though, I'm sure everyone is aware that this is grating on Toady as much as us and he's already stated he doesn't want to do this much at once again - and seriously people, find something else to do - you know the adage about waiting for water to boil...or elf flesh...)

I don't think even Toady can work 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, for two months.

I swear to god, when I turn 18 and get a job I'm donating my first paycheck to toady.
And then for the next month after that half my paycheck.
I want to see toady roll in money (even if it's only quarters, I don't care)

It'll take more than one all-nighter to make this significantly earlier. As I understand it, he normally works through the night anyway. Less sleep is only helpful in the short term anyway.

Being relatively new to DF, this has been the only release I've ever played. I didn't even know until recently Boatmurdered was 2-D. To me, this development time is nothing. I would actually prefer the current schedule to updates every however long they usually are; about 2 months?
Anyway, what I'm saying is, ignore the naysayers! Take as long as you want to take!

He wants to take a whole lot less long than this. Be aware that this is an alpha, people testing it as it's being produced is a good thing.

Well also remember that after an all nighter people tend to sleep for longer then 8 hours.

So he actually loses time pulling all nighters.

OK, I fill in my five cents here. Even though I'm new to the forum and played DF for several months now, I'm pretty much pleased with Toady's progress. Programming isn't something that can be done very quickly. Heck, being a guy who mods stuff I know how much time goes into making features work. It takes time to get something to work decently. I for one would rather wait while Toady give us updates every once in a while. I mean at least he gives us an idea what's going on.

And if we wish for all the features to be included we must it back and wait. He will bring up updates as he progresses and if we want our update to be filled with lots of awesomeness for us to do. We should wait a while long. Certainly we can hold though the year to come right?

Just keep going at your pace toady we will can wait. As long as you keep updating on the progress and events, I know it';ll be one step closer to being awesome.

I started playing the last 2d release just after Toady started the 3d rewrite, so I spent that wait figuring out the 2d and sympathizing with the impatient folks getting antsy as the release took longer and longer.  Then it came out, and I spent the first few days going: what the, how do I play this thing...?  I'm anticipating another round of that last with 'relish'. :P

*Been checking dev-log for 2 years at least weekly and did read all 400 pages of the thread*
This is ONLY game which keeps me interested so long, and i believe it does not matter if release is delayed by few monthes as long as Toady keeps informing us about his work.
Failing to meet deadlines is common in software development, esp. when theres only one developer involved.
