I'm noticing a distinct lack of inane commentary on the STAR JELLY DISPENSER.  Let's comment on it.

What do you suppose star jelly is?

Yes because obviously Future of the Fortress is suffering from a lack of inane commentary

Reading the devlog entry on custom workshops this morning fills me with squee. This is perhaps one of the biggest gifts to modders Toady has given us yet. I can't wait to see the insane economies that get created. I need to mod silicon into the game and build the first dwarven microchip fab plant. Then my dwarfs can build PCs, on which they can play Dwarf Fortress, causing the world to collapse in an infinite recursion loop.

It's essentially this mysterious substance that people find on the ground that's purported to have fallen from the sky. It's jelly-like and has an irritating tendancy to dissolve into nothing before people have a chance to analyze it.

Why you'd want a dispenser for it is beyond me. :P

A bomb workshop
1. Mod a new item with inherent temperature of 1 billion degree.
2. Create a workshop that makes said item.
3. Assign dwarf to make said item in workshop.
4. BOOM!

One of the toads decided to go for a swim in the moat - presumably because he could path through the moat to my dwarves. He is not charging in, just loitering in the moat.

The toad is having a nice relaxing swim.
The goblin mounted on his back, however, is drowning.

 Star Jelly is what dwarves use to fill logistical holes. Like not needing water for brewing beer. Or perpetual motion plants.

From what I understand, a large portion of the noble/appointment code is going into the raws. Given that fortress guard and royal guard will be controlled  by specific nobles now, does this mean that I could mod in a high priest noble with a squad of temple knights under his rule?

I still think that the whole fortress should be flooded with magma the moment you try dividing by zero.
This could be a handy way of teaching preschool children mathematics.

It definitely looks that way, yeah.  You can give a position a name, any of the permitted responsibilities (which includes religion) and you can also put them in charge of a squad, along with lots of other options.  So it's all there, I think.  We'll probably be hearing about entity positions again in a month or two when Toady goes back to work on them.
