Cinnabar Jewelry

They seriously make and sell cinnabar jewelry. This strikes me as a bad idea.

The substance referred to on this site and throughout the jewelry industry as Cinnabar (because of its resemblance to the mineral and the way it was carved in ancient times), is actually a heavy, molded, resin-based polymer.

Response to next post: You didn't catch it because I didn't get it from that site. Now that I read deeper into the site in the OP, it looks like I was wrong. It clearly says cinnabar and red bloodstone.

I like this from the wiki In particular, the Romans used convict labor in their [cinnabar] mines as a form of death sentence.

This carries on the long-standing Chinese tradition of enthusiastically trying to sicken or kill yourself in the name of good luck, health, or just for ****s and giggles  :P

In hindsight it seems like a really poor idea to make a Giant cinnabar floor decoration.

Might need to get back to replacing it with realgar.

Damnit... that isn't toxic. Hmmm this is the best I can do.

Quote from: Wikipedia
In 2001, Egyptian government archaeologist Zahi Hawass was the first to enter a previously undisturbed tomb, believed to be that of an ancient regional mayor, in the Bahariya Oasis below the town of Bawiti. Upon entering the burial chamber, Hawass discovered a booby trap consisting of 8 inches of finely powdered hematite dust covering the floor and sarcophagus. When disturbed by a tomb robber, the sharp, metallic dust was intended to become airborne and irritate the skin, eyes and mucous membranes, eventually causing lethal siderosis if exposed for long enough. The archaeological team was forced to retreat and don full body suits and respirators in order to confirm the identity of the mummy. Hawass cites the ancient Egyptians' experience with powdered hematite as a paint pigment as proof that they were aware of its irritating properties.

It's not red. But petrified wood is, and it's perfectly safe.
