No!  Of course they should have beards!  Dwarves are hard, tough, mine people.  They'd need the beards to filter out the dust while mining!

You know what the stupid thing is?

World generation from an established seed can be completely changed by a single tag.  From release onward, all threads and postings on awesome world seeds and bug reports will have to be headed with BEARDS ON/OFF?

I picture them as lacking beards but having fairly thick body hair - sideburns and that little line of hair on the small of their backs like some Indian women.

Yes, I see female dwarves as having facial hair. But I picture their beards being silkier than the beards of a male, being flowing rivers of blond or red or ebony. I don't think that such things would detract from their beauty one bit.

 It is not that I find beardless dwarves more attractive to me, but more along the fact that I can visualize them being just as toughh while still maintaining some feminity. Even male elves don't have breasts, why should female dwarves have beards in my world?

 Whatever other people think is fine. I'll personally play with them beardless(Heh, as if I don't always play humans), but I'll chuckle when seeing a parody image with bearded women.

I've always thought of beards as a progression:

Elves: neither the males nor the females have beards.
Humans: males can have beards.
Dwarves: both have beards.

 I think of it as a progression between masculinity and femininity. Elves are feminine, Humans are in the middle, dwarves are Masculine. Male elves still look like men, despite how feminine they are. Thus I see dwarven women as very butch-like, but still feminine.

I see them as not being reflective of human definitions at all.  To me, dwarven women having beards falls in the same category of physiological data as female lizards being bigger than males.  It's just a fact of their species, not a comment on their character as a race compared to humans.

And no, Toady hasn't posted the raws for anyone but dwarves, so as yet, only he knows if elves are supposed to have facial hair.  I see no reason why they shouldn't - maybe they wear long, fu-man-chu mustaches or something.
