Book help
« on: January 29, 2009, 08:45:45 pm »

Probably not the best place in the world to ask this, but I don't really visit any other site that would be able to help, so here I go:

Does anyone know the name of a book that is about a boy falling in love with some naiad (or stream goddess, something like that), getting a sentient sword that can heal him (something to do with the sword losing one of its hearstrings, which eventually regenerate, to repair the boy's), and planning on killing a river god (who has seven times seven heartstrings, according to the sword) because the river god is causing pain for the naiad?

I read this book over 10 years ago and can't even begin to remember what it was called. Obviously I may not be getting all the details right, but it should hopefully be a good enough description for someone to recognize it.

Thanks!

How do you know that your memory of this book isn't just a constructed rationalization that your mind created to shield you from the knowledge of something horrible that happened to you over ten years ago?

Well, I finally found it: The Waterborn. Now I just have to get my hands on it again to see if it's any good :D

I'm also wondering if I somehow made up the parts about the heartstrings or whatever, as I'm having a hard time finding a review or synopsis that mentions them...

Hm sounds like an interesting fantasy novel. I should buy it perhaps hmmm....but first of all I must read The Silmarillion, since I just bought it a couple of days ago.

You will either think Silmarillion is the best Tolkien book, or probably not finish it, as that seems to be the general concensus.

Me......

LOVED IT

^ Yep...this is why I've decided to buy it. Some people say that it's awesome, while some others are saying that it's extremely boring.  :)

this sounds like a good novel. ill go to borders in my spare time, buy a coffee from the shop in there, and read it in an afternoon or two as i do with all books nowadys. they dont care so long as a buy coffee.

also, i found silmariillion to be very boring, and did not progress far into it. it was just like reading about very dryly written real world mythology, only there is an absurdly tiny number of people who will care about your hard gained knowledge.

inalucts comment and woose's additon to it made me laugh very very hard.
