it's been there for a while. If you mod them in as a civ, you can give them ranged weapons that do burning or freezing damage for an almost magical experience!

Taritus:
They're there along with a few other things so you can have engravings about them.

Jay:
They've been there since the 2D version.
Most notably, if you copied the first 3D version over the top of the last 2D version, you got wizard forts.
That is why you never copy new versions over your old folder.
