Dwarf Trapped

During a small encounter with a fire imp, one of my dwarfs was running away to the safety of inside, behind some cage traps. As he crosses the trap barrier, he is hit with a fireball and, eventually when he passed out, caught inside the trap himself.

I cant seem to release him no matter what I do, sometimes his image will change, so that it seems like he is out, but he just stays trapped.

have you built the cage the tried to realese him?

Try hooking the cage to a lever.

I didnt think to try a lever. But, none the less, he has starved to death before one could be built (he was my mechanic)

But someone else got hurt in this struggle, and I am in a sea side map. Is there any way to get any fresh water. At all?
