Magic is organized in 21 spheres. These are Law, Sun, Life, Enchantment, Spirit, Creation, Nature, Earth, Water, Air, Force, Metamagic, Death, Fire, Chaos, Dimension, Ice, Body, Mind, Shadow, Entropy. I'll explain what the heck a sphere can do if asked. For now, I'm doing it for the spheres that some players already learned.

Sun

Sun magic is mainly about light. You can create light, blind your opponents and even burn some stuff if you focus the light enough. A creative sun mage could probably create a laser.
The second aspect is that you have counterspells against illusions, shadow magic, anything concealing, lies etc. You might cause someone to be unable to lie or discern illusions from the real thing.

Fire

Fire magic is a fairly straightforward sphere - cause burns, heat, fire elementals, fireballs, all the good stuff. Fire however also is aligned to some emotions - namely hatred and passion.

Dimension

Dimension mages have a bonus to summoning. It is also the sphere of teleportation. The main thing is however that Dimension is the sphere of "illicit links", stuff like voodoo or planar rifts.

(1) You suddenly remember that you're not supposed to be flying and come crashing on the ground. (6) In the last second, you see an interesting-looking twig and begin to rise again without noticing. You gain a new ability.
