Magma-immune dwarfs?
« on: September 23, 2011, 02:07:58 am »

Well, my attempt to clear out an underground farm failed. Shame; I'm on a snowy desert map with no above ground shrubs or trees.

Anyway; the whole way this happened is quite scrupulous. During the whole excavation I kept finding warm stone. I ignored it; so long as I didn't mine it I would be safe? Nope. For some reason an anomaly happened and a non-warm stone held magma on the other side. I managed to get all dwarves out but one; Etur. A skilled miner; no biggie. But still; this dwarf seems to be immune to magma. He's not drowning in it, burning in it or moving around in it. Even in 6/7 magma he refused to die. I try to have him carve upstairs next to him, but he doesn't seem to want to. So I had a dwarf above do it for him; still nothing. Any ideas on how to get him out?

It seems as though this dwarf has outdone Necro's precious magma. I got the save if anyone wants it.

Just started; no casualties so far, no armour of any kind. No military either.

E: It seems he is getting points in swimming. Ladies and gentlemen; I may have engineered the first explorer of the magma sea. No more need for pods if I can get him out of there alive

I'm guessing you have temperature off.

Warm stone warning doesn't appear if you're mining out already revealed stone, which is how most of my floods happen with rivers and moist walls.

Don't worry about it, I had the exact same reaction. I realized what happened when writing a similar post to yours :]

Build a grid of floor grates above the entire city. Draft a squadron of masons and bomb the crap out of the city with falling constructed walls.

What's more fun is if you wait a year or so to turn temperature back on and they melt into a puddle of dorfy goo while they go about their (your) business.

I don't know if you need other ideas when you have magma.
