I'm trying to find it's archaic term, but all I'm getting is "devout; pious". Maybe fear meant awareness as opposed to, you know, fear?

IIRC, it's a reflection on the way that ancient Greek grammar influenced Aramaic parables.

I think I either just rolled a natural 20 or a natural 1 on a knowledge (history) check.

Well, God's kicked humanity's ass... alot.

The Devil and all his demons, like Mephistopheles, have done some pretty awesome things in folklore.

My favorite are the Faust legends and Lord of the Flies, though I'm not sure if that counts.

Also, the Mayans had the coolest fucking demons ever. There was this one called Vucub Caquix, a gigantic bird-demon that imitated the sun and moon and ruled over a world of eternal twilight. He got killed by some Hero Twins, eventually. This was before the current world was created. It's all in the Popol Vuh.

Vucub Caquix means Seven Macaw. Both of those names sound awesome. If I ever need a code name for something, it'll be Seven Macaw.
