Reinforced Steelpine - New Armor Material
« on: March 11, 2009, 11:39:18 am »

New guy here.

So, after some tinkering around with the raws, i added one new type of tree, a new type of metal using logs from this tree, and a reaction to make turn the one into the other.

Steelpine will grow in temperate broadleaf forests (easily changeable), and can with the combination of copper bars be turned into Reinforced Steelpine, a type of metal that is used for armor and provides 150% efficiency (its better than steel!).

This goes into matgloss_wood.txt

Code: [Select]
[MATGLOSS_WOOD:STEELPINE]
[NAME:steelpine][ADJ:steelpine]
[TILE:5]
[PREFSTRING:solid density]
[DRY]
[BIOME:ANY_TEMPERATE_BROADLEAF]
[SAPLING]
[SOLID_DENSITY:1000]

This goes into reaction_standard.txt

Code: [Select]
[REACTION:REINFORCE_STEELPINE]
[NAME:Reinforce steelpine logs]
[SMELTER]
[REAGENT:1:WOOD:NO_SUBTYPE:WOOD:STEELPINE]
[REAGENT:1:BAR:NO_SUBTYPE:METAL:COPPER]
[PRODUCT:100:1:BAR:NO_SUBTYPE:METAL:REINFORCED_STEELPINE]
[FUEL]

And this goes into matgloss_metal.txt
Code: [Select]
[MATGLOSS_METAL:REINFORCED_STEELPINE]
[NAME:reinforced steelpine][ADJ:reinforced steelpine][COLOR:6:4:0]
[VALUE:5]
[SPEC_HEAT:150]
[MELTING_POINT:10468]
[BOILING_POINT:12150]
[ARMOR]
[BLOCK_PERC:150]
[SOLID_DENSITY:6000]

Basically i just wanted to post this here to see what you think about it, and what can be improved.

Can we melt it into steel/iron, or just this new strange metal? I ask if this is intended, as it appears it will always be this strange plant metal.

Buck up friendo, we're all on the level here.
I would bet money Andrew has edited things retroactively, except I can't prove anything because it was edited retroactively.

I'm not sure, is it even possible to change the material something melts to?

Anywho, i hardly think you will be getting any steel or iron out of it, since reinforced steelpine is made from copper and steelpine logs. :P

If you like, you could change out copper to iron and/or create a reaction that melts the reinforced steelpine into copper/iron bars in a 3 to 1 ratio.

It'll melt to the new metal, unless you make another reaction to convert it into iron/steel.
