Hey all,

I'm trying to get an interesting reaction to work for my Frost Giant variant. But it doesn't seem to be working. At least, I can't get the option to actually use the reaction at the smelter.

Here is the reaction I'm trying to use:

[REAGENT:1:STONE:NO_SUBTYPE:WATER:NO_MATGLOSS]
[PRODUCT:100:1:BAR:NO_SUBTYPE:METAL:WINTERSTEEL]

As you can see, I'm trying to use the alcohol made by a particular plant with ice and a gemstone to make a usable 'ice metal'. But I can't seem to get the alcohol to work right (I've used the gem and ice in other reactions just fine).

Any thoughts?

Probably a dumb question, but do you gen a new world after adding this to the raws?

The smelter can't work with reagents inside containers. You can use the job manager to get your furnace operator to fetch things from bins, but you can't actually use liquids and extracts. Sorry.

Ah, blast. That explains it.

Guess I'll have to go with the raw berry, then, and just make a stockpile for it that doesn't use barrels.

Ooh, I think I mislead you. It's not that barrels are magically smelter-proof, just that their contents can't be used. Anything that can be taken out of its container and carried on its own (like plants and seeds) will work just fine, even if it's stored in a barrel. The dwarf will take it out of the barrel, just like a brewer does.

The buggy part is that if there are no plants stored outside barrels, the job won't appear in the smelter's (a)dd job list, but since you can assign "impossible" jobs via the job manager, once they're passed down to the smelter, your furnace operator will do it just fine.
