A Squidling I drew
« on: March 26, 2009, 11:56:46 pm »

This is a picture I drew a while back, before my niece lost my colored pencils. Criticize.

Little hint: When using colored pencils, you have to take more time for the best effect. Colored pencils, and for that matter crayons, look best when you stroke them on the paper often enough so that there isn't any white to be seen where the color is. Also, you can use the direction of the strokes to influence the look, suggesting curves etc.

Mind you, I've little experience with this medium.

Squid? SQUID!?!? What sort of conflounderous conflounder draws squids in this octopus-centric world we live in.

You're a loose cannon Psycho Jelly, I suggest you cap that attitude of yours or I'll have your badge!

Why can't we just agree that cuttlefish are the best?

I often argue so, yet people often aren't quite familiar with them.

Why do you call it a squidling?

Because putting the -ling at the end gives it connotations of littleness.

Hm, I always thought that squid tentacles were larger than what is being presented. Ah well, maybe I'm just thinking of giant squid; good drawing either way. There's only one thing bothering me, it's just why you outlined so darkly with the graphite. Looks to me like you already had a good handle on the squid shape even before you began.
