Black Prophecy MMO Space Twitch Sim
« on: March 31, 2009, 01:40:57 pm »

Well the package looks good so far, but will require a hearty machine to play me thinks. Anyways I signed up to try for the beta, fingers crossed. I have seen much interest in space sims/space combat around here. Me? Privateer, X 3 ect,  are some of my favorite games, and space combat sim is my favorite genre, aside from roguelikes. Anyways here is the trailer and the gamesite if anyone is interested in this type of thing:

I used to play neocron, their other game, and I certainly hope they will pay more attentions to bugs and animations this time around.

Nope, that one has been progressing.

The one you are thinking about is probably darkfall and that one has been released already.

Nope, I'm not talking about Darkfall, I'm talking about a space "mmo". Something that had the combat prototype up on their site for download for ages.

Reakktor Media was unknown to me, frankly I am not really very knowledgeable about German game developers. Neocron 1 and 2 sound pretty fun, looks like a mixed bag of reviews out there, most like you have said, complain about interface, graphics and stability. I do hope that Black Prophecy turns out well, space combat and mmo seem like a natural combination, to me at least. I would love seeing something like Planetside mix with the good elements from Star Wars Galaxies, with a dash of Freelancer..ah well. Somebody from the Total War community gave me a head's up about BP, we shall see if it is any good. I will report back if I am able to beta.

What kind of pvp is it going to have? General peace(enforced by either ingame police or game machanics) with focused pvp areas or ULTIMATE FREEDOM bored high levels turning the newbie zone into a meatgrinder, darkfail style?

From the site: "Black Prophecy allows players to organize big PvP battles and also offers varied PvP missions. " I will guess that they are saying PvP will be inside a zone (s)?, at least that what it sounds like to me.

Also on a semi side note: the game that sounds similar that will never come out, also a space combat MMO, is called Blackstar, by Spacetime Interactive. They were going to do it for Xbox 360 and PC, but looks like they are stopping production, appearently for the 3rd time.

I was really interested in this until i checked out the details.
One, its not really an MMO, its just a fucktonne of instanced battles.
Two, its pretty much just freelancer with friends.
Three, you can't pilot any ships bigger than a fighter bomber.

And lastly, this pales in comparison with Eve-online.

You like Eve, nilocy. Eve Sucks. Therefore your likes suck.
(Awesome fallacy right there. xD)

But in all seriousness. I hate eve, but I crave for a space mmo/game. So I will give it a try, considering I liked Neocron, I have some hopes.

I was interested in this (and jumpgate evolution, which is pretty much the same thing i think). But now i know its done by the neocron devs ill steer clear.

Picked up Neocron 2 for a pound from a bargin bin sale, took it home and had a hell of a time setting up an account, lookin around I read countless dodgey things about their billing system and decided it wasnt worth the risk.

Billing was all fucked up when it got sold. I didn't subscribe at that period. After reaktor moved away the updates really took away part of the mood of the game and I didn't bother continuing.
